Pfaff Creative Vision 5.0 shutting down problem
 

I have a Pfaff Creative Vision 5.0 that has started shutting down and restarting on it's own. Also, as I was sewing it would stop and give the message "the machine needs to rest". I would wait until it said it was okay and then sew again for a few inches and then do that again. Sometimes it would shut down completely and then start back up again by itself. I googled the problem and others have had the same problem. Some suggestions were that it might be the "transformer" or power source. The "transformer" is not repairable and has to be replaced. My question is, has anyone had this problem, did you get it fixed and about how much did it cost?

That’s interesting. I have a Brother emb/sewing machine that does the same….it cycles off and on almost constantly. It’s impossible to get more than one or two stitches. I’ve had it to two diff Bro authorized dealers for repair. The first said it was the power supply unit, which is no longer available. No one has mentioned "transformer". The second repair person, this past January, said he cleaned the contact points on the PSU and it was fine. So, I came home to begin sewing quilt blocks together. After a couple of hours, the on/off resetting started again.
I don’t know what option I have other than stealing the PSU from another identical machine, ( which I have). It seems defeating, but this machine is my favorite— so smooth and quiet operation. They do have personalities! Good luck with yours..I guess mine is spare parts. :-)

Just throwing this out. Have you tried a different plug or running it through a surge protector? If it is already on a surge protector, a new surge protector? I think surge protectors have a lifespan and need to be replaced now and then.

I have a pfaff creative sensation and it did the same thing. Sent it to be checked and they couldn't find anything other than a loose ground wire. It has been working ever since. However, that being said.whenever threads get nested even just a little it will shut down. I think it just has a very sensitive sensor.

My friend had the Creative Sensation 4.0 and it had similar problems after only a year. They replaced the mother board and she hasn't had any further problems that I know of...
She had to insist that they do something because it was only 10 months old at the time, and she was a very valued customer they acted....

I posted this a while back. I had a Pfaff passport 2.0 That would just stop stitching although the lights remained on. I would turn it off, unplug it, turn it back on and it would work just fine. Kept doing that. Then it would not run, then I was just sitting there, hands off the machine and it took off at full speed and would not turn off until I pulled the plug out. Brought it in a couple of times. It always worked in the shop. The tech said he thought that the computer boards inside were very sensitive to static, tiny dust particles, etc. He did run it for a while he said but could not make it misbehave. He had already cleaned it at that point. I was so tired of dealing with this machine, I actually haven't even run it since I got it back and it has been over a year. I would like to get rid of it but because of the problem I don't want to sell it to anyone, and I also have a problem with just tossing it out in the recycling as it sometimes works. Thoughts?

Thanks everyone for your input. I called the sewing center where I bought my machine and immediately was told the power source (?) needed to be replaced. Said wasn't hard to do so I could bring it in one day and pick it up the next. Said it would run about $200 to fix. That's better than I expected and better than having to buy a new machine.

Update: The problem was the power supply but the $200 I was quoted was the price of the part and not any labor. Bottom line: $391.00 later I'm sewing again. Still better than a new machine.
