To move your needle, push the - or + button that is just to the top right of the small screen. (It is right above the - and + button to change your stitch size.) Pushing + one time gives you a .03 Pushing it twice gives you a .05. I have never pushed it more than that, and I use a .03 when I want a scant 1/4 inch. Pushing the - has the needle going the other direction. It will say -.03, etc. I have not used mine that direction.

Let me know if this is enough instruction. I actually took pictures, thinking that would help, and then decided it was unnecessary. There are a lot of things on this machine I don't use. That's a shame, but I am just not into decorative stitching, attaching lace, etc. I am happy with the parts I use.

Right, Dina. You cannot move the needle! If you use a "guide" of some kind on the plate (like tape) you can run the edge of your fabric alone it for the scant 1/4". I love my straight stitch plate and I can set my machine to warn me when starting up that I can only do Straight stitch.

Oh, just saw that delronix already told you this!

I tried it with my 4.2,
I can move the needle one position (0.3) and the needle still goes free of the straight stitch needleplate.
But I can't say if the space between the needle and the plate will be enough if there would be any drag to the needle caused by fabric.

Oh Dina, Thanks! I just haven't ever tried to, but it works. Love that! Really should read over the manual, thought it would be easier to just ask. Memo to self... look for manual !

I used a pfaff at a quilt class. The people who had let us borrow the machines came and replaced all our throat plates with a large whole instead of the single so we could move our needle .
I loved the machine?

I have a 2020 Triptronic Pfaff & just last year discovered I could move the needle. For scant 1/4" I use the #6 setting. It's really less than scant but gives me mistake room! I bought the single hole plate too cause it was eating my corners .It's 10 yrs old but I sure do love my machine! The IDT is wonderful for easing in fabric too.
