Pfaff Grand Quilter Thoughts?
 

You all helped me with a long arm question a few weeks back. Got another one as I'm in the beginning stages of purchasing a machine. Thoughts on the Pfaff Grand Quilter 18? I demo-ed one at a quilt store and liked it. There is a used one for sale nearby. It would be for personal use with the possibility of quilting for others later. Love to hear what you all have to say about the machine. Thanks in advance.

I bought a used one a few years ago and love it. In the past I didn't use it to quilt my projects just because I hated the quilting process but love to piece. This year I have learned Quilt As You Go and now make all my comfort quilts using that method, and using that machine. Haven't even had it serviced because I clean and oil with every bobbin change. Because it's a mechanical machine and somewhat industrial, oiling the machine as the book says is quite important.

I don't have any experience with the Pfaff, but looking at pics of the machine, it appears to be a "mid-arm" machine, thus after a little quilting, depending on the batting and the size of the quilt, you won't have very much quilting space left by the time you get halfway through the quilt. Have you looked into a Bailey? They have 13", 15" and a 17" machines, they're VERY reasonably priced, have a good reputation, and excellent customer service. When I have the room and the money, I'll get a Bailey.

It is the same machine as the Viking 18 x 8 and the tin lizzy. Good machine.

It's a good machine. I bought mine used and it has served me well for several years now.

Is it a REALLY good deal? The machine itself is perfectly fine...but the Inspira frame is not as stable as some of the other brands. If you want to chat more, message me privately. I don't want to see you get "taken for a ride"
