Pfaff Passport feedback??
 

I am considering buying the Pfaff Passport to use as my travel machine and possibly more. Now that it has been out for a while I am hoping that I can get feedback about how satisfied owners are. If I hurry I can get it on sale for $549 and that includes an extension table. Any advice?

I really like my passport. It's lightweight and easily portable. It's similar enough to my Creative Vision that I don't have to think a lot about how to set it up and use it (I don't use it often, only when I travel or take a class somewhere other than my regular LQS). It uses the same feet as my regular machine and it has a nice straight stitch with no skipped stitches or other problems. It has other stitches as well, but I've not had a reason to use them yet. The lighting is okay, but I carry an Ikea bendable light with me because I need lots of light when I sew. I'm very happy to have my passport!

I bought mine back in May when they first came out. I love it!! It is easily transportable around my house and to classes. I find I am using it almost exclusively for piecing. I have the 1/4 inch foot with guide. I love the built-in walking foot. Machine handles going through 4 layers of fabric without any problems. It goes through 5-6 layers if going slowly. I use my Bernina 830 for quilting.

I just finished paying for mine. Got it on sale , sorta, in that a friend and I comparisoned shopped and got a better deal each, plus 20% off all Pfaff accessories.

Love it. I do a bit of travel to help others out. So I wanted a lighter weight machine to take with me. I do have a FW but that won't do the zigzag type stitches when I want.

Once I learned to thread it correctly (it's different than my Babylock Ellure), I'm really enjoying it. The fabric moves through smoothly and stitches remain perfect through thicker layers. I like the 'speed stitching' option too.
It's not a 'real' light machine but is definitely a few pounds lighter than lugging the Babylock to classes and groups.

I bought mine when they first came out - which is something I try not to do. In this case it worked out fine, I love mine. I use it for class and when I go sew with the girls. I also have it set up at my mom's for her friends that come over. I have been very happy with it.

I love mine, but I paid a good bit more than that for it. If you can get it for that price, jump on it. I've been using a Pfaff machine since 1976. I own 3 of them right now and wouldn't part with them. The Passport is easy to use, does a wonderful job and has many features larger machines have.

Well, I just wanted all of you to know that yesterday I brought home my very own Passport! I am so excited. I have loved my Pfaff 2144, but I have had a lot of trouble with the retention gadget which holds the bobbin in place and keeps it working. Apparently the least little thing causes the top thread to get sucked in and pops this part off leaving the machine inoperable. It has been replaced about 6 times and the last few times my repair man did not even charge me. At any rate, I still know that Pfaff makes a great machine despite my problem machine. This gives me a travel machine which I can count on and it is light and easy to move. Hurrah! I'll keep you posted on Baby's adventures.

Good to hear all these comments. I have 2 Pfaff Essential Ambition. One to leave set up all; the time and one to use for classes/retreats. I plan to eventually buy a Passport for my daughter. I just bought her a Brother from Hancocks to see if she likes sewing and if she does, I would like to buy her a Passport when they come on sale. I love my Pfaffs I have and would like my daughter to eventually have one, too, if she does like quilting. She is 20 and has just taken a slight interest in quilting so far.

Just wondering how you like that Passport now that you've had it a few days?

In case anyone else is considering a passport, I want to add my experience. I bought it when it was a new entry in the Pfaff family and have used it since July, for workshop or other travel days. Last month I went on a retreat and used it three days and four evenings, so it really got a workout. How would I rate it? Five Star!

Although I have had my Passport for about a month, I haven't been able to give her a real workout because we went on vacation right after my purchase. I am really excited about having it and everything I know or have heard is positive. My Pfaff 2144 has been flipping out and breaking the tension bracket on a regular basis so I had to do something to get a machine that could travel to my quilt group and be reliable. The repairman called me yesterday and said that he had reset everything to be closer to the bracket and he thinks (hopes) that will take care of the problem. He has replaced the bracket 5-6 times. No matter what though, I now have my new baby and I can use my Pfaff Grand Quilter at home if 2144 flips out again. Very very happy! :)
