Pfaff Passport - Should I?
 

Thinking of selling my FW 222 and my Janome 4800 and buying a Pfaff Passport. Wanting a machine that is light enough to take to classes or retreats but still having the IDT of my Pfaff 1222's. Finding all sewing and quilting goes ever so much better with that dual feed. And I'd still have the fancy stitches I use occasionally. And I need to thin the herd.
But maybe not by much cause I'm thinking of finding a FW221... They are such easy machines for beginning sewists to learn on...

I bought the Passport esp as a take out machine. It is lightweight, has multiple needle positions, needle down, & more. I love it so much I use it at home too. So now I have my Pfaff Creative Vision, which also does embroidery & has a bigger harp space, & the Passport that I use at home.
I also have a FW, but don't use it. Investment?
I absolutely don't expect to buy any more machines.

Two of the women I quilt with on Fridays got the Passport. they seem to like it. One of them has had trouble with the bobbin and the other one had to take it to the shop for something or other. They both said for what they paid they didn't expect that, but, now seem to have gotten things to work mostly.

I wouldn't sell a FW222!!!!

FW222's are so rare! No way I would sell that. But I would still buy the Passport. :shock: Maybe thin out a different portion of the herd?

Stitchnripper and Prism99 - I can only afford the Passport if I sell the 222 but I hope to get a couple more FW 221's. I teach sewing and quilting to 4-Hers and not many people have machines. Since I know and maintain the machines myself I have no fear of letting the kids use them. But there is food for thought - I'd wanted a 222 for a long time.... I just am not crazy about letting kids loose on that.

Me again -I just looked at the Passport and looks like a great machine. They show a picture of a lady carrying it but no,one I know ever carries any machine -that’s what wheelie totes are for, along with all the other necessary stuff.

I have a regular Pfaff. I do not like the slanted front or the bobbin entry. I bought an acrylic extension table but the slant is a problem and so is the bobbin.

I agree that if you buy a rolling sewing machine bag, it is pretty easy to move a regular machine. These bags are sold at Joanns' Fabrics. I have one and I used it for my Pfaff when I took it to my summer home. No problem with carrying a full-size machine. You might want to check out the Brothers' models. I have the 1500, which is a straight-stitch only machine and it FMQs very well. It is also considered "portable".

Those are the two things I don't like about my sister's Pfaff!

I bought a Passport as a travel machine. My regular machine was the Pfaff 2056. Since then I've bought the Pfaff Quilting Expression 4.2. I decided that the Pfaff 2056 was just as portable as the Passport and I liked the way it operated better. I agree with you, I don't want to be without the IDT or a similar feature on another machine. I'm just thinking you might be able to get a good deal on a used 2056 or 2058. Otherwise, I do really like the Passport and can't quite bring myself to get rid of it yet.
