Photo quilt
I made a lap quilt with pictures of my friends dog.. I have the quilt ready to quilt on my Sweet Sixteen.
My question is ...do I quilt over the pictures or just go around the pictures...Thanks |
It's your choice, of course, but I like the look of no quilting. It would depend on the requirements of your batting, though.

You might try quilting around the picture of the dog so it will puff up and dense quilting around it which would also make the pic of the dog puff up more.
|
I would quilt around the dog so the dog would stand out in the pic
|
I too would quilt around the dog, so it would puff, and quilt the rest as what ever you want to do
|
I only quilted on the frames around the pictures. But mine were about 4x5. I might’ve done something different if they were bigger.

Thanks everyone,
I think the idea of quilting around each of the dogs in the pictures is a great idea and maybe doing an all over stitch in the rest of the quilt.I'm not that great with my quilting but I do try and am getting a little better with practice..Thanks everyone... |
Do you have a picture to practice on? Perhaps one that didn't print right and couldn't be used in the quilt? I ask because some of the photo transfers I've done seem very stiff and I wonder whether quilting over the top of them would leave big holes or would the machine skip stitches because of the stiffness. I've only used smaller photos in quits that don't need to have quilting on them or used them in my labels.

I did a memory quilt years ago and had copy place iron on photos to fabric for me. i did not quilt over the photos. and i've swapped a lot over the years and some blocks had small iron on photos of dogs and such, they always felt different so never sewed over those either. try a sample first and then decide.

I have made a few photo quilts, I usually quilt my own quilts. That being said I do not quilt over any pictures. I do not want stitches going across any ones face. I had one professionally quilted and she did as I do. Quilted up to the photo and stopped, then Skipped ahead. and started the quilting. I looked fine. I am afraid of offending someone if I quilt over there picture, human or animal.
