I did one several years ago and what I did was to adjust the borders around the block so all the blocks ended up the same size. Some were horizontal, some vertical. It looked good when done.

Do a layout on paper first, just cut colored paper in miniature to size, arrange on "sized down" quilt top you want to make and then fill in the gaps with appropriate sashing and blocks.Usually 1 foot to 1 inch works for me.

Is there a particular type fabric needed for this type of quilt (with pictures)? Thanks

I used prepared fabric from the LQS but some people make their own with butchers paper. There are lots of hints on the threads here.

I have made several memory quilts. What I do is cut the fabric in the same size squares. Then I iron the pictures to the center of the fabric. I printed phots from my computer onto iron on transfer paper. It works for me. The last one I made was form my DSIL for her 60th birthday. It made her cry. I am bad! LOL

How do I actually get the pictures transfered to the fabric? Thanks

You can buy inkjet fabric sheets - paper backed fabric that you run thru the printer. You peel the paper off and are left with your picture on the fabric. Be sure to read the instructions with the fabric sheets. The ones I have recommend to wait 24 hours, rinse with water and dry before using in your project.
