I am making my granddaughter a t-shirt quilt with transfer photos in the sashing. The photos are printed on transfer fabricfrom JoAnns (can't remember the name...something "Treasures.) I have ironed the photos once they printed but I've now been told they can wash out. Any suggestions how to make the photos permanent on the fabric.

Did you print the photos directly onto the fabric, or did you print onto transfer paper and then iron the picture onto the fabric?

I printed them directly onto the photo fabric.

did it say permanant on the fabric sheets? I don't use the ready to use sheets I may my own with Bubble Jet Set and Bubble Jet Rinse. Good luck

i am in the process of making a memory quilt i started to make the pictures with bubble jet 2000 and bubble jet rinse using a hp printer the pictures were ok but then i did some reading and found out the ink in a epson c120 was better to use so i tried that along with after the photos were dried ((( i waited at least an hour)) i rinsed the pictures in bubble jet rinse and had little run off of ink and the pictures were clearer than the step before then i heard about the sheets at jo ann fabrics or ant other quilt shop called printed treasures they are 100 % cotton material on a peel back sheet i used them and i was really impressed with the results the only hold back was they were exspensive it came to about $3.00 a sheet dont let them sit on the peel back paper to long because i noticed the ones i let sit longeer were hard to tear off the peel backing paper then i rinsed them in bubble jet rinse and have had no problem with these either just make sure you read the instuction i think you leave it in the rise for about 5 min and lay out flat to dry hope this helped you out i know i was frustrated when i started this project i am glad my trial and error helped someone

Thanks so much. I just happen to have the Bubble Rinse but I never thought of using it. I printed the pictures on the paper-backed fabric from JoAnn's so looks like I'll give this a shot. I printed on an HP printer but not the one you listed. So, I'll give a try as you suggested and see how my printer's ink works.

I did some on my hp and when washed in the washer, 1/2 of the ink faded out. But I have an Epson rx575 and the pics only lost a touch of blue color. I washed 1/2 a pic and compared the 2, they were very close to the same- unwashed and washed. So I'll stick with my Epson. I tell the people to hand wash anyway, since quilts should be treated with care.

Just yesterday, I was given a sample of photo transfer paper from my local computer shop as I have just bought a new printer - Epson DX7450!!

You print directly onto this and then iron it on, it has colour change pictures on the paper to tell you exactly when to shop ironing, as the older version didn't so you weren't sure if the colour had 'taken' so the guy tells me, he prints T shirts all the time with this paper....

You finish the print by ironing with greaseproof paper which fixes it, and you can repeat the process to increase the colour....I will let you know when I get around to playing with it lol!!!!!!

I am making Trevor a Van Halen themed crazy patch quilt. Van Halen has been his all time favourite band since he was a teenager. I took a number of photos of the band and photos of Trevor and his buddy who went to their Renunion Tour in Toronto and put them on the Avery photo transfer paper. I tried using the ones that came from the quilt shops and are printed right on the fabric themselves, but my printer wouldnt' allow it. Most of the time, the fabric transfer paper kept jamming or wouldn't even go through the printer. Finally I had to resort to the photo transfer paper from Avery. It is also used for t-shirts and tote bags. But it HATEs HATES HATES the iron!!!! I placed a photo on each 14" square piece of muslin that I used for the foundation of my crazy patch blocks and just made sure the iron didnt' touch the photo. Otherwise it would melt :( I just hope that it withstands a washing machine down the road when I have to wash the quilt from time to time. I have put alot of work into this project already and still have lots to do to complete it. I would hate to have it ruined!!! :(

I just read a tip from Joe Hesch who appears on Sue Hausmans show regularly. He said when the edges of the fabric/paper curls up it will most likely jam in the printer. He suggests storing your sheets in plastic bags and weighting them down with an old phone book to keep them flat. I also am not too happy with the inks used in HP printers and I have been looking for an Epsom printer to use in the future. In my experience when I borrowed my brothers Epsom printer and used the Bubble Jet products I got very nice results.
