Photos on fabric
 

Quite a while back someone on here mentioned a place that will put your pictures on fabric to use in a quilt..I am so frustrated trying to use transfers and have redone parts of this quilt so many times!! If anyone out there knows who i can contact to get my pictures done, I would greatly appreciate it.. mydaughter wants this quilt for her grandmother to take with her to chemo and radiation treatments..We gave her the one done with transfers, but the pictures look like they are cracking and edges peeling...I would love to make it all over again with pictures that will stay..Thanks so much!

You can either purchase the fabric already treated at Joanns and other places to print photos or make your own with Bubble Jet Set

Check with local copier cos or T shirt companies. In my area both will do this with your prewashed, pressed fabric.

I prefer using Bubblejet and preparing my own because I like the texture better.

Spoonflower might end up doable..It looks like they print fabric with your designs--they don't mention photos. I will call them tomorrow to check...i am afraid to try top print again...I went thru so many transfers and they all ended up messing up...When you talk about treated fabric, do you put the actual fabric thru the printer?? Do you need any special ink?

Yes Joanns sells fabric that goes through your printer you also can do the bubble jet set and iron your fabric onto freezer paper and put it through your printer. I never had much luck with the transfers either

What kind of printer do you have? You can look it up to see if the inking is permanent but I have had good luck with bubble jet I have a cannon Pixima

I would definetly use a t shirt company. they do a good job.

T shirt companies will not only do a good job, but a more professional looking job as they have access to a heat press (far superior to a home iron), more things to add to your design (anything from embroidered patches to special foil for fabric application).

The 2 photos I have below are some examples of projects to a pre-applied fabric with all over foil Butterfly images printed on the denim (jeans) fabric for a bike cover up slipcover (first photograph shown) to a project which I sent away for application to a bag to hang on a bike's handlebar (photo #2).

I have seen a company at quilt shows that does photos on fabric, but I did not note the name. What I liked about their work was that the photos were sharp and the fabric stayed soft; they also indicated the photos would last. I do not know which company it was I saw at the quilt shows, but I did find this one online:

My local Kinko's has the whole process down pat including the correct heat press. They even have examples of T shirts they have done on display.
