If you were making a piano key border and wanted to use jelly roll or honey bun precuts, do you think you'd need more than one package say for example, on a lap sized quilt?

I think there is no way around quilt math, since different collections would have different numbers of strips. Also, the length of the keys would differ according to width of borders required.

Thinking about this gives me a headache...I need more coffee!

To answer that question, the following information needs to be given:
size of quilt top center
size of piano key length
size of jelly roll strip
number of jelly roll strips in a package.

and yes - then the math starts (but that is fun).

Mad Quilter likes watching my head explode.

I use Excel to figure out that stuff.

I wasn't really looking for specifics, just wondered if anyone made one with just one jelly roll. I think it would work. I just worked this out in Excel:

40 strips (2.5")
sew all together - 80" finished
cut into segments, say 6.5" cut size = 6 segments 80" long
equals 480 linear inches

a 60x80 quilt would be about 380 linear inches in perimeter. I guess I was to tired and distracted this morning to do math.

MATH :( If I can't figure it out on the calculater or measuring tape I'm lost. Or I just ask my DH.

All math questions beyond simple algebra are referred to the husband and daughter you do calculus problems for fun. Yes, I said for fun. Who can do it fastest. This is their idea of a good time and yet, they think sewing would make a person crazy. :?
