I've been out of quilting quite a few years - but when I did have a 'stash' - it was NEVER like I've seen on here. Some look like fabric stores I've seen in small towns!!!!

Guess main reason never had a 'stash' like so many today was simple - IT TAKES LOTS OF $$$$ THAT I DIDN'T HAVE -nor do I have the funds today, so I sure won't die as "the one who has the most material"

Sorry, but I just don't get it - you lucky quilters who have your own fabric "store" & lots of machines obviously have more means than I do or ever had for buying.

I can remember 'bartering' for 3 quilts for hope chests for 3 grand dgts when they graduated H.S. & sold a few on commission that $ was used to buy more fabric. Ahhhh the good ole days???

Don't get me wrong - Not complaining, just ENJOYING the quilting instead of the collecting I guess.

Everyone have a blessed week end & may all your quilts be filled w/LOVE!!!!

I have scaled WAAAAAY back on buying fabric. First I go through the stash and pull what I can. Then I may buy small amounts to supplement but that's it. I love the challenge of working with what is there and making some of the non-traditional colors/fabrics work.

Your quilts are lovely.

Both quilts are beautiful, but I really love what you did from your stash. Wish my stash were complete enough to do that!

My big problem is those JoAnn and Hancock coupons. I get the JoAnn ones three ways: by mail directly from them, by mail in a local coupon mailer, and in the local newspaper. I'm trying to just shred them as they come in to avoid temptation. And I look at my stash and realize I'll be lucky to ever use up what I already have.

I'm also going to pack up a lot of it and donate it to the Baby Bundles project at my local guild and also to the local Linus group.

Count me in! (After I make a JoAnn run today to stock up on batting--I'm very low on that necessity, honest).

Great quilts. Working from your stash only is what I have been doing this year, now that cotton is so high. Today I also heard the "love it for 10 minutes" rule...when you see a fabric you want to "live with it" for at least 10 min. If you are like me, you might end up putting a lot back on the shelf.

I've been on a self-imposed fabric diet for about 9 nonths, and it' killing me in some ways and challenging and inspiring me in others. For anyone who's familiar with a 12-step program these words haunt me: "I came to believe there's a power greater than ourselves..........." So it's been freeing and confining at the same time. Since I'm in a hurry to use up what I have, I find myself sewing a lot. which is why I'll probably never be "a regular here"! lol!

Your quilts are beautiful !!
This year is the first I have bought fabric for quilting, in about 3years. I have only used my stash.
A lot of mine are scrappy type, I don't always have enough to make a lot of blocks, but I love doing them ! :-D

beautiful!

I could probably stop buying fabric for about 10 years and have no trouble making lots of quilts with my stash - BUT what fun would that be.

I haven't bought any fabric for over 3 months. Does that count to subtract from the six months? LOL My LQS is having a 65% off fabrics sale. I'm trying to resist. It's pretty hard to do. Thank goodness I already have almost everything that she has in her shop.
