I saw where someone had used the BQ pattern and put family pictures where the big squares are.... You would need to be thoughtful about piecing.... Don't want someone upside down!!! I just Google "BQ quilt +photo".... found it....

That sounds great! I was thinking of the quilterscasche (sp). There are loads of patterns with instructions. I know many have 3 or 4 inch squares in the middle.
