I have just finished my top and was laying out my fabric for my backing but turns out i didnt have enough to just have on seam.. is it ok to have the seams uneven? or is that a faux pas or just not look right.. i have a mock up scetch of what it would look like.. that fabric is a deep blue solid. its not really that i dont want to measure it out and divide it into even measurements.. i would just prefer as few of seams as possible.. especially since i am attempting a little more fancy (to me anyway) quilting design to go with my stitch in the ditch.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

this is essentially what it would come out to where the seams would be

Put a labels in the small block. that way it will look like you planed it that way.

I always piece my backs. With as many fabrics as needed.
Sometimes there is a plan, sometimes I'm just filling up the space.

Your layout in the sketch will work fine. And none of the seams are on fold lines, so even better.

I just finished one that had at least 10 seams in it using leftover fabric from the quilt. It turned out so neat, I like it better front:)

My girlfriend only does pieced backs and I'll be the first to tell you...her backs are usually better than her fronts :). LOL! I've started piecing my backs out of jealousy. I think that if you're going to piece the back, I'd really piece it. Chop it some more and keep piecing. How you have it now is a good start or a good way to keep it too. You might have done it out of need, but it adds some fun interest in the back. (I guess I'm assuming the three pieces are all different colors...if not, you probably won't notice.) :)

It's fine. don't sweat the small stuff (and it's all small stuff).

It's fine. I just pieced my current one staight across the middle. It's the back, the fabrics match, the seams are straight. What's not to like?

thanks for the advice! My last quilt i purposely on accident didnt have enought backing and the front was a scrap strip quilt and i loved it.. i used leftover from the front and used a chunk for the back and it was amazing! I loved the way pieced backs looks. Honestly if i could do another pieced with leftovers i would in an instant but i just dont have the extra like i would have wanted.

Thanks again! cant wait to show yall my finished piece!
