pieced pillowcase?
Hi
I have a bunch of blocks sewn together. Will these work if used to make a pillowcase (using one of the sausage tutorials online)? Or do you think the fabric needs to be a straight cut. The blocks are left over from the bed quilt. I am not sure if it will be strong enough, in case they are truly used while sleeping... Thoughts? MA |
I wouldn't want the seam lines on my face. If it's just for decoration, then I'd say yes.

I've made plenty of pieced pillow cases -- but I do layer them with either very light batting or flannel and do free motion quilting.
Seam lines on the face aren't an issue for people who sleep on their back. Or if you want to avoid that possibility, you could make it be one of those long body pillows intended to lie against your back, not your face. |
What about maybe using your blocks for the band around the opening, attaching it to solid fabric for main part of the pillow case??

I am wondering if the seams would ravel too much if left inside of a pillow case. Maybe line with something to keep them from raveling so much.?
|
Definitely quilt the blocks, as others suggested, or you will have a raveling mess. I would use them on decorative pillows on the bed rather than ones that are used for sleeping. It's not just the lines on the face (I have enough already, thank you) but the more frequent laundering of the pillowcases that are used at night.

I have never made the body of the pillowcase out of anything pieced but I have done the cuff since it is automatically lined.
|
I agree with the others, I would only piece the cuff if they are to be used for sleeping on. Could piece if they are decorative pillows or shams.
|
What about piecing on one side for show and no seams on the other side for sleeping?
