I agree! I love all of it, even the basting part. Once it is basted together, it actually LOOKS like a quilt. I do hate it when my machine acts up, which it does once in a while. (I think it does that just to get my blood pressure up) lol

I like to hand quilt........hand sewing the binding & choosing the fabric & pattern. My quilt tops don't
talk to me about the quilting design. (worst part) I'm glad they talk to someone.

I dont like basting, realy dont like quilting but visually impaired so its. Difficult for me! Have been sending sstuff out but since she has 10 of my projects im worried about picking them up and getting the bill!! Going to try quilting again, crosshatch ing and SIDm. Maybe i can do some!!

I like doing both. I wish I were better with the quilting but trust that will come with more practice. I don't even mind basting that much. :)

I love piecing but maybe I would like quilting too if I had a decent machine.

I love the entire process up to the point when I have to pay my LAQer (lol). I love touching the different fabrics during fabric selection and the satisfaction when the idea I have in my mind becomes something real and tangible. Cutting the pieces, seeing the design take shape and sewing it together are fun! I don't FMQ because I have hand problems and can't feed the sandwich evenly, but I do enjoy stitching the binding and label by hand. My very favorite part of every quilting project is giving it to someone and experiencing the joy of sharing what I've created. :)

Definitely prefer piecing, but am starting to not mind quilting since actually trying it on my Horizon. With the dual feed or trying FMQ for the first time, the experience was at least positive--at least a 6 out of 10 and not a 3 or 2 out of 10.

Piecing and sewing in general is right up there close to a 10 out of 10. Trimming half square triangles is about a 1 out of 10. :)

And I agree that when tired or in a hurry, it is better to just stop--go clean up the kitchen or check out QB, as things can do downhill quickly at the sewing or embroidery machine.

I love all parts of it, although sometimes the repetition will get to me. For instance, I love all the parts of getting a quilt going, picking out the design and fabrics, and even the cutting isn't bad because it's varied. But then the patterns will say, "make 32 of these pieces", and ye gads, by the time I'm coming up on 28, I am so sick of make that one piece! That's why I avoid quilts all made out of the same blocks. I like variety. Same with quilting. Boring is doing an entire quilt with SITD. Interesting is doing some outlines and echoes, filling in some areas with meanderings, using stencils to put interesting vines or other motifs along the borders. I'm not "fluent" with FMQ, but I'm making progress, always "pushing the envelope" on what I can do. What I really love about quilting is that there is always a new skill to learn, a way to push yourself to grow in your craft, something more to aspire to --- my goals are constantly being pushed down the road!

My guild has a community service group that makes quilts for a local boys home. To make money for projects, they do basting for other quilters. They chose this part of the process for money making because they meet where they have big tables to lay the sandwich out so they don't have to get on the floor. Check around the quilters in your area--at churches, etc. you might find somebody to do that for you.

I love the whole process. It never seems to amaze me. How you can take different shapes and put them together and it comes out this whole geometical facinating beauty. The thing that I like least about it is the marking and cutting out the pieces. I am always so anxious to get started that this process gets in my way.
