I made these little pin cushions using applesauce cups with a metal washer in the bottom for weight. Stuffed with whatever your choice and covered with quilted fabric with elastic casing at the bottom. I used various colors of felt to cover the bottom with both fabrics glued on. They may be decorated any way you like. Make nice gifts.

That's a neat idea. Great for recycling too.

ChrisB is there a pattern for those online? They are great.

Look for the patterns from Miss Rosies Quilt Co., They have a line called Fruit Salad Pincushions. The water mellon and strawberry's are really nice. I'm working on them now.
Also the current F&P magazine has an owl that's really cute too

There have been some really cute pin cushions on here. I would love to try some too.

Our own Dotty here made a cupcake pin cushion that was adorable. A donut too,and it looked real! I want to try a few for Christmas presents. I believe they are in Tutorials here.

Thanks for the ideas. Our quilt guild is have a Tea and Quilt Auction with a boutique next May and we are looking for good ideas that are simple to make for the boutique. These are great and give me something else to suggest to our quilters.

I saw these in my LQS selling for $20 a piece. I came home and googled pincushions and found this tutorial. I sat down on a Sunday afternoon and had one put together in no time.

There are a ton of threads here on pin cushions. Lots of them in the Links and Resources forum.

You can also look at Tipnut and see what she has for pin cushion patterns. Link here http://tipnut.com/pincushion-patterns/

I made my sister a little box pin cushion using Vikings fabric. I wrapped a yellow gross-grain ribbon around it and added football buttons, sewn to the top. So many people have asked her about that pincushion that I'm making some out of the remaining fabric to sell to help pay for some additional feet for my new Bernina!

The box pincushions are so easy to make. You need two pieces of fabric for top and bottom cut to 4 inches, and then a 1.5 inch strip to go all the way around. Easy peasy.

I've made the Abby Bag http://www.abbeylanequilts.com/abbeybag.html and really like it.
