Pin Cushions
 

I want to make an assortment of pin cushions for party favors. I have not made these before and do not know what makes the best stuffing. What do you use for stuffing and what is your favorite pin cushion design ? Thank you for reading and hopefully responding to my post.

Good question. I want to know the answer, too.

I mostly use the magnetic ones, but some of the ones people have made are as cute as can be!

i just use polyester fiber fill in mine.

You can use wool batting, poly batting, crushed walnut shells, sand, & a new product from Plumeasypatterns.com a lavender scented ground nut shells, which are ground walnut shells. Think I might try some of this next time I make pin cushions.

MSQC just had a tutorial showing how to make a chicken pin cushion. They looked really easy and were cute. Of course everything Jenny Doan makes is easy--either that or she just makes it look easy. I use crushed walnut shells to stuff mine.

I have used dry rice also, remember some folks might be allergic to nuts and I am told walnut shells are a no no for them.

The chicken one is sew cute! I like this one: you can make it any size from tiny to door stopper.

I use rice in the bottom of my pincushions and then fill with crushed shells or cotton stuffing or whatever.

This tutorial was delightful - I think you could have lots of fun being creative as you made a variety of chickens. I too, use crushed walnut shells, you can get them at a pet store, as they are often called lizard litter.

I found a free one on line that was an adorable fish. Have not made it yet, but am thinking of using it for Christmas Gifts. I use crushed walnut shells.

I always use ground emery. You can purchase it online. Just google emery. It is sort of messy, but I fill mine over an old cookie sheet. Emery keeps your needles and pins clean and sharp. It is also heavy, so pin cushions can be used for little weights.
