Hi All,
I'm hoping someone can help me. I've read a description of a class given by Pepper Cory in which she teaches how to hand sew a pineapple block using a foundation. This is the way it was done in the 19th century. I have no access to this class but since I'm a hand piecer I would love to know how this is done. I've googled on everything I can think of & visited dozens of sites with no luck. Does anyone know where I can learn this technique? Online or in a book? I'm thinking if this is the traditional technique some one somewhere must have written about it. Thanks! Doris |
I don't do much hand sewing, but could you draw the pattern lightly on the foundation fabric, then starting from the middle and working out, handstitch piece by piece?

If you have not found one, This site has one
http://quiltwithdonna.com/foldystuffpageb.html You actually do not press them open as you do with other quilting. There is a small amount of excess fabric that forms a soft loop over the hand sewn seam hiding the stitches and seam - Very nice as your stitches do not have to be perfect. |

Thanks for the help. I think I have it. It's really paper piecing with a foundation fabric instead of paper, right? I have some extremely flimsy cotton that's been in the stash for years. (Probably from my garment sewing days.) And naturally a bin of scraps. I can't wait to try this out. Please let me know if my pp assumption is wrong! It should make a nice change. I normally hand piece using Jinny Beyer's dot-to-dot method where wonky stitches are apt to show. Sounds much more relaxing. Doris |
