I have finished a PB top. Has anyone made one of these? I need advice on how to quilt it. I have not done free motion quilting so that's out. I need this finished for Christmas so I'd appreciate your help.
Thanks.

Here is a PB quilt...this one is Bonnie's pattern......... from Quiltville.

I'd say do straight stitching through the light parts (diagonally) and then also through the corners, so the quilting is all diagonal boxes. That should be enough, and easy enough to do USING YOUR PRESSER FOOT!

Start in the middle (longest run) and roll up the excess that will be in the inside of your machine. Then unroll as you go. Then repeat on the other side, turn the quilt and go the opposite direction.

Thanks for the suggestion. That might be a good choice. I will be starting the quilting on Saturday.

If you read all of the print in the directions on that link you provided, you will find that Miss Bonnie included pictures of quilting details/closeups.
I don't remember ever seeing it before, but as I scrolled down through the directions, I found a link to "leaders/enders" ... I followed that link where she highlighted a few quilts from the book and once again, on each of the quilts, she showed a close up of the quilting details.
Miss Bonnie is a very generous person, to be sure. I didn't check out all of her quilts, but I am betting that she has links to close ups of the quilting detail. You will see blue lettering in her instructions, etc. run your mouse over those letters and click, you will be taken to a link with pictures. Very cool! <wave>

Thanks, omak. I did look at how she quilted the PB but it is FMQed and I don't know how to do that...at least, I can't do a good job of it..still need lots of practice. Most of her quilts that I looked at, are FMQed or have quilted wreaths, flowers etc. For my quilt, I want something with straight lines...it is a big quilt....90-something x 90-something and I have a small machine, so easy,straight- line quilting is all I can manage.

I guess my first post wasn't very clear. I will probably do straight-line quilting but not sure where the quilting should go.

suggest you use your feed dog foot and stitch in the ditch. I cant FMQ to save my life I use this foot all the time even when I am tracing around part of a bear. (I make mostly kids quilts I do not have the room to make any bigger one)

I know this does not help you much on this project (sorry)

OK I looked at the PB and suggest you quilt. around the centers. then around the sashing. depending on the batting you are using you should quilt no more than 3 to 4 inches apart. then around the borders.

Thanks for the suggestions. What is a feed dog foot? Is it the same as a walking foot?

Thank you all for the comments/suggestions.

I have decided to hand quilt around the 'blossoms' and maybe some other areas. This is a scrappy PB and I really like it, so I want to take my time and do a good job of it.
The intended recipient won't mind waiting a bit longer. I will make a PB throw cushion for her Xmas gift with a note letting her know that the quilt will follow.

Once again, thank you for the replies.
