Pink or not to pink?

I just acquired a Singer Pinker and have started cutting out squares for a nine patch. I'm using fabric that frays a little. Is is over kill to pink my squares to keep them from fraying?

I think so. I'd just trim 1/4" off the edge and keep cutting your squares while you're at it . Or is this a Pinking rotary cutter blade? If so, that's not overkill, but it's harder to measure precisely and quickly when the edges are pinked, in my experience.

I find it easier to piece on straight, non-pinked edges (which is why I’m not a huge fan of precuts). I only use my pinking shears/rotary cutter before pre-washing a large cuts of fabric (I only pre-wash for one type of blanket I make).

Either way I would starch the fabric well, as cutting & sewing is much better especially if 'soft' or loosely woven.

Never pink quilting fabric for my piecing. The elusive perfect quarter inch doesn't happen for me....do I use the in or the out "Pink"? Accuracy is key to perfect pieced blocks.....personal preference. I use pinking when garment sewing sometimes. I also use it when doing pot holders....kitchen items....if I don't want to get out my serger.

I only cut my own precuts from my stash.
