I have several pairs of pinking shears.

Can they be sharpened? -
Is it worthwhile doing?
Does anyone still use them for quilting?

They can be sharpened. We had someone come to our quilt show and a few of our ladies had them done. I have not sharpened mine yet, but don't use them for quilting. Only for clothes making.

I use them for sewing other things; I haven't found anyone to sharpen mine, but I'm going to ask someone at the Hair/Beauty Supply Store. They always have sharp scissors, so they might know who does it.

I have not tried it but I heard you can sharpen scissors by cutting foil.

I have had mine sharpened by the guy that comes to Joann's and sharpens scissors. He did a great job and it was about $8.

Foil works a bit. It doesn't last long, but it is a good stop gap measure.

Oh, I use them to trim off the excess batting and backing after I sew on the binding to the front, but before I stitch it to the back. The pinked edge fills out the binding without being too hard. I like the soft edge it creates.

check with your local barber shop. They have to get their sicissor sharpened so they should know of a reliable person to contact.

hair scissors are sharpened differently on completely different equipment!

I've had my good scissors sharpened at Joann's will have to check and see if the person down here does them.

I have used them to cut down the edge of fabric before washing it.

Besides this pair were my Mom's - really need to give them special attention.

I will try foil thing...I think I need all my scissors sharpened....

I have my mom's pinking shears bought in 1947. Don't use very often because they REALLY need sharpening. I will have to look for someone in this area.

Check yellow pages or google for tool sharpening.

My LQS sharpens them - actually has someone that does them - costs more than regular shears.
