Do they make a smaller version of these? I have the 8 1/2" pair but would like a smaller more easier to use set.

I cut out alot of fabric for clothes, those big clunky ones hurt my hand.

watterstide 08-31-2010 01:43 PM

is it possible to use the rotary pinking blade instead?
have you oiled them?
i have my grandmas..they are a bite to use..

I have looked and looked and have never found them. I too would love to have a smaller version.....say half that size. I have looked everywhere online...maybe someone with far better searching skills than I would be able to find them.
:D

I guess I could get a pinking blade too. But I think it would be easier to negoiate the curves on clothing patterns with the shears.

Thanks Watterstide.....very interesting. Did you see the comment almost to the bottom of the page where a lady in 2009 said she missed the bid on a pair of 5 inch ones on Ebay from Australia? So maybe they are out there somewhere. You'd think in this day and age with all they do they could figure out a way to make them. But thanks for the interesting article.

I have my mom's shears and they are quite heavy to use but somehow I can adjust my hand and they work great.

I found this pair at a garage sale for 50 cents!! They are made by Sears and Robuck. They measure 7 inches I also picked up a pair of WISS ones at a resale shop for $1.00

Fiskars makes spring loaded pinking shears AND scissors. I have rheumatoid arthritis, and I'm grateful for the spring loaded. It sure helps the hands! Here's a link to see the pinking shears. JoAnn's carries Fiskars.

There are blades for the Olfa cutter that 'pink' you fabric used them for years, a real hand saver.

Aussie Quilter 09-09-2010 03:46 AM

I've never seen the smaller ones. The pair I have I bought about 45 years ago. I mainly use them for trimming the ends of fabrics before I wash them - stops them unravelling.

Rainy Day 09-09-2010 04:37 AM

I have my grandmothers left handed ones in four sizes. Do you want me to leave you a pair in my will?
All the females in our family are lefties - but there are no sewers in the next generation.
I love them, I use them all the time. They are Sheffield Steel and Solingen.
And keep this in mind if you get them sharpened ;)
