Here is disposable ear plugs that you can use in place of actual pinmoors. They are at Harbor Freight and is 50 to a pack and on sale now for $4.99
http://www.harborfreight.com/50-pair...ugs-96365.html Item 96365 Much much cheaper. Cut them in half and you will have lots more. :) |
Marvelous. What a clever idea. Cheap too. And easy to find in stores. Seems to me that at one time I saw a big plastic bin full of them. That would be just the thing.
|
That is a neat idea. You are very clever.
|
That's a great idea!
|
For 50 pinmoors the price is $19.48.
Harbor Freight 50 ear plugs for $4.99 BIG DIFFERENCE. So for $20 bucks you can get 200 at HF. Who CARES if they are just orange and not different colors. Do you really think your quilt will know the difference? LOL |
Very clever idea :D:D:D
|
I had never heard of them. Always learning something new.
|
They'll show up nicely and you'll know right away if there's orange, there's a pin.
|
Ok what are pinmoors?? crafty_linda_b

Pinmoors are used on the pointed end of pins instead of using safety pins when your pinning your quilt together.
Instead of using safety pins, you use your regular pins and you stick the point in a pinmoor instead of closing a safetypin to prevent you from getting "stuck" with the pin. Saves your fingers actually from opening and closing safety pins. |
Went and looked at the video..now I understand..looks like they would be in the way when you are machine quilting? thanks for sharing..crafty_linda_b

Nice but personally, when it's a product made by an independent and made in the USA to boot, I will splurge on the real thing. Just my opinion.
|
Thank you so much for sharing this. It is simple and obvious, and I never would have thought of it on my own...LOL! I pass a Harbor Freight on my way home from work; I will have to stop in one of these days and see what other treasures they're hiding.
|
I love the things we learn here. What a great idea. Our local Harbor Freight is located right next to our Joanns. Makes it nice for both hubby and myself. Now i can give him my list.
|
Great idea!

What a great idea! I knew there had to be a substitute, but never gave ear plugs a thought!
Thanks for sharing. |
Wow! Thanks for the great trip! I love the things that I bought at Harbor Freight! Not to mention the freebie that you get when you go in there with yr coupon! Yep, will stop and get some this weekend infact. They will work with with my T-pins that someone told me to buy instead of safety pins. Ouch! I get stuck with those all the time and stopped using them.

Hi, I am glad you took my idea and found something else to use. However when you find that the ear plugs don't really hold for long give Pinmoors a try.
I made them out of silicone so they would last forever! Also, they are on sale this Month. Thanks, Loretta |
Thanks for sharing.

Are these things made out of the same material as Pinmoors?
I admit that I was a skeptic, but Pinmoors really do grip the pins (or needles) where the earplugs I tried did not. The earplugs wouldn't stay on while I quilted and I ended up with loose earplugs and pins. Yes, they're more expensive than earplugs - earplugs are made in unbelieveable quantities with little associated R&D cost. The smaller the batch, the higher per-piece cost of manufacture. The Pinmoors aren't in the way any more than safety pins - you have to stop and remove safety pins or tagging gun tags or basting stitches or Pinmoors and pins. I'm not at all affiliated with Pinmoors or any earplug company, either. ;) |
You certainly hit on a super idea!! Thank you!!
|
I really like my pinmoors. I don't know if the earplugs would last as long as the pinmoors though.
I'm currently taking a break from pinning a quilt using them. Cheers, K |
