Pins, lots of pins
So while tiding up my sewing area, discovered lots of straight pins in various areas. So the question: Do you have lots of pins? Pins of varying lengths? Pins with different heads? White tops, "crystal" tops. simulated pearls, flat heads, flower heads? I have to say yes but not saying what I'm saying yes to...lol
Lol...yes, all,of the above... I have lots of pins...though, hopefully, they are in their boxes or stuck in pin cushions. Lol..
yes, I do.
I have the flat flower head pins, stronger glass head pins and I bought the cute little acrylic diamond full of metallic head pins just because they were so pretty.
I have yellow pins, white pins, the cute little 1/2 pins for applique, flower pins, and those big pearl hat pins for my longarm
Numbered pins with directional arrows, silk pins, flat head pins, flower head pins, pearl hat pins, glass head pins, silicone head pins—got them all. Sometimes, if I talk myself out of fabric or books, I get pins.

Yes...all kinds: many sizes, shapes (including bent), head types and locations....do we need to start a pin moratorium thread????https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png

Not me, I have a magnetic holder with multi colored “good” pins (can’t remember the exact type) for piecing and then a pin cushion of flower head pins at my LA machine to attach the backing to leaders.
I kinda feel pin poor..all I have are the big yellow head pins and good fine straight pins to use when piecing.https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Oh, Oh!! Cute gift at a quilt retreat...a gal took one of those long pins with white top. Took a cute button, put the pin "through it", secured it with a dab of glue...oh so cute sticking in my pin cushion.

Yes, the blue head pins are on the magnetic pin holder. At the end of the day they all point to center.

Tons of pins here! Pretty ones, ugly ones, you name it.
I have a beautiful enamel pincushion I got years ago in Paducah that I never used. Finally asked myself what I was waiting for. So now it's being used and loved. It has kittens on it. I remember it was expensive and that's why I didn't use it. Silly I know! I have a Zirkel that holds a ton of pins, and many others. |
All kinds here too but I was thinking yesterday I should get some more yellow head ones. I guess the hundreds I have just isn't enough. Our needs are so simple, a few pins and we are happy.
Same here, but I have no idea how I get them! Last pins I bought were a couple years ago and they are the forked pins which I don't use much. Pins are kind of like scraps, they repopulate overnight!
I'll give to you a paper of pins, If that's the way that love begins, If you will marry, Marry, marry, marry, If you'll marry me. |
I have a lot of pins of all sorts of tops. Do I need all of them? No! But I might someday.
Yepper, pins everywhere. In old sewing boxes, A newer box sitting on my cutting table, pin cushions and in sewing machine drawers. All colors shape and sizes. Longer and shorter. Pins I had no idea I had. Crazy how there are more pins than I ever though of.
No one mentioned bent pins. I have a lot of those.https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/redface.png Why don't I throw them away?
My best pins won't stick to a magnetic holder. They are stainless and excellent quality. I have had them for years. I have lots of containers of pins of all kinds. I like the Magic pins. I can iron over them. I use the inexpensive round yellow headed pins on my design wall. I use the flower head pins for paper piecing, funny only need a couple for that and I have hundreds. LOL
Yes I have many pins. The DGD's gifted me with the yellow numbered pins last Christmas and they have already been well used. I prefer the very very fine silk pins for piecing. I keep an empty parmesan cheese container by my machine and try to discard bent and/or dull pins as I come across them.
I bought flat flower head pins but they’re weak and bend. I have long pins (maybe corsage pins ?) for design wall. The rest are yellow head pins in several pin cushions upstairs and down.
Oh dear, I have so many types. But, they are all used for different reasons. Quilting safety pins with little plastic sleeves on them, glass head yellow long (safe by the ironing board), multi colored pearl ones (sturdy and used the most) , flower head ones (serger), fancy beaded ones (Gifted to me by QB members, applique tiny ones, numbered ones for tricky patterns and some milliner's I used for when I need an extra length. Oh, an my original sewing stainless pins in a little plastic pink box. Hardly ever used because the heads are hard to handle with arthritic hands.
Now ask me about needles... LOL! I forgot the sequin pins I bought for those cute fabric ornaments. |

It’s funny how even the most mundane tool has specialty subcategories. When we started quilting we bought a magnetic holder with “regular” pins. My wife saw the flower head pins and had to have them, so we bought those and used them exclusively for a long time. One of our local shops got a great deal on some pins in a disc and they encouraged us to buy a set because they were such a bargain. We used them for a bit but the shaft was too thick and they caused our patchwork to be off so we retired them. Then I bought a set of the very fine glass head pins because I was doing some precision work and wanted some pins that caused minimal distortion. Last but not least, a friend gave me a set of corsage pins for the long arm. We must be quilters.

I use to have lots of different pins. I have been weeding them out. When most get bent I throw all them away. I then get out new pins and keep doing the same.
I had yellow pins years ago, but finally got rid of them when I discovered I left one in a project for six months, came back to it and it rusted.
I have a ton of pins, pins with silver beads, silk pins with white glass beads, long pins with crystal ends, corsage pins with faux pearls and I finally ordered flat head pins. Not sure why, I just kept forgetting to order them until yesterday, lol. Also have bent pins, I keep those in a dedicated Tostito dip glass jar, along with bent needles and other sharps. Once it's full, I hand it off to the landfill so they can dispose of them properly. |
I have tons of pins. Before I moved, I had several places in the house where I sewed or sat and pinned pieces. Now that we have downsized, I have all the pins in one room - I have sorted them into different containers since sometimes I want pins I can iron over (glass head) and sometimes I just want to pin pieces together (usually use flowerhead pins). I find I prefer really thin pins so they bend easily - I put them and bent sewing machine needles into old pill bottles and label them as bent needles - when the bottle is full I toss it.

Yes! I have lots of pins. Two pincushions and two magnetic pin holder full of them, plus one pincushion with needles only. And they are all different types. I have some short ones I don't like much that I stick into my design wall in case they are needed there.
