I use a Q-tip with a little machine oil on it to clean my machine. When black thread or black fabric is used, the machine should be cleaned well because the black contains carbon which could eventually damage your machine.

Great idea have to get real pipe cleaners soon.

They were to be used to clean out your bobbin case and surrounding LINT areas. fold in half and go for those tiny spaces. You'll be amazed at the gunk you'll find.. And they are reusable ! I can't wait to get home to clean my big machine cause I KNOW there is at least a bolt of lint in places I haven't been able to get that brush in to.!! We are RV-ing central coast of California and won't be home till April.... *sigh* lint will have to wait... clean "ON" !!

I use a mascara brush. It, too, works great.

Mascara brushes are awesome for reaching some places the pipe cleaners do not!! I use pipe cleaners, mascara brushes, q-tips, paint brushes or whatever else it mite take me to get into the grimy, linty places on machines. DH offered "canned air" but I declined even though it's great for a quick dusting for unexpected company.

I am cheap. I reuse mascara brushes several times. I just clean them with Dawn detergent and air dry after each use.
