Hi

I've seen lots of placemats on here and I'm wondering what size you all made. I'm in the middle of making some for a Christmas present and I don't really know what finished size to make them. Don't want them too big...or too small either. is 16" x 12" about right? It's for a table setting of 8 (not my table so I can't measure it - I think the table is about 6' long)

Thanks

I just made some for my thanksgiving host and did 13" x 18" and they seemed to work out fine.

Good luck!

I googled "place mats" -

and with a very brief search - I found paper ones as small as 9.5x13.5 and cloth ones as large as 14x20 inches.

I made some quilted ones last year and sad to say they were too small for dinner dishes...should have been more careful and measured my dishes first. But you know what....they loved them and kept them on the table all year. I guess they were happy even if I wasn't.

I just did my daughter some and they were for a 6 place setting and they are 12X 17.5 finished.

a suggestion was given to me regarding the placemats for sizing and templates - - go to the dollar store and get one of those plastic ones. I dont know what the size is but thats what the ladies in my group used for theirs. Hope this helps.

I am making some now for an order. I had a plastic one I use under my machine to keep it from sliding, and Im using it for a pattern. Whats cool is if you are careful you can go around it with your cutter.

Thanks for the quick replies. I don't usually use them, but I did find an old one after I posted and it's 18 x 12.5 and looks ok so I think I'll work around those measurements :)

Thanks
