What batting do you suggest using for placemats? I don't want something too bulky.

Our guild just made over 125 place-mats for Meals on Wheels and we used cotton batting. It was fine.

I am using Insul-Brite. Hopefully it won't be too thick.

Bamboo or cotton.

I think I might give flannel a try. I love the feel of it and it is usually easy to work with on my other projects. :)

A Pellon interfacing that is flatter than batting. It comes both plain and fusible, but I'm not a fusible fan. It's 45 inches wide and is folded on big bolts at the fabric store.

I use either cotton batting or cotton flannel. The flannel is a bit cheaper, especially if I get it 1/2 off at Joann's. Both work up nicely. I use Insulbright in some of my table runners. That way I can use them also as hot plates.

I've just used leftover pieces of whatever I have on hand that wasn't really fluffy. I've even used the stuff that was sold as fake snow for use on Christmas village table decoration.

pretty much all batts come in various lofts--from very thin/flat- to lofty/thick
use a thin one- just a layer of muslin or flannel works well too. |
I used washable felt thin but very dence,
