placemat size
I want to make some placemats for a friend but I am not sure what size to make them. Does 12x24 sound too long? Or 12x16 too short? The block pattern I want to use is an 8x12. I thought about using 2 blocks and adding something in between to make a 12x18, if that size sounds more reasonable.

Mine here on my table are 11" x 17". But you could make them any size.

I usually make them about 12" X 18" somewhere around there. I've made them 11" x 17" & other sizes. There is no set rule. 12" x 16" is the size of the store bought ones I have

I usually make them 12 by 18 but any size that suits you purpose is OK. Ialso bought a book where they were Oval shape .

And don't forget, they will shrink some when washed, so better to make them a little larger to begin with.
|
You should also consider the size of the table, I always make mine 12 x 18 but the last set I made were too big for the table it is 44 x 42. So I wound up having to make them their set with rounded corners!

12 x 18 is my favorite size but if the table is smaller make it 12 x 16. How about a 12 inch finished size block and a 3 inch rectangle on each side.

Size of the plate matters too.

We are making a bunch of placemats for Meals on Wheels and most of mine are 12x17 or 12x18, somewhere in that ballpark.

Thank you everyone. I am making these for a friend as a surprise, and she is an internet friend so I have no idea of table or plate size and I don't want to ask and raise questions in her mind. So, I think I will just go w/12x18. I'm pretty excited about making these, for the surprise factor.
Thanks again for the help. Oh, and the reminder that they will shrink a bit. |
