Thanks for this, Maribeth. I've signed up, too and am looking forward to making a scrappy quilt. It's a project on my list of to-do that will now move to done.

I did the tote bag and New Year's quilt here as well, and both were easy to follow and turned out well. I haven't done anything within the same time, mine seem to take closer to a week than a day, but hey, I'm going to try yet again.

TGFST (thank goodness for summer time)
:D

It sounds like a lot of fun, I will have to sign up and then start digging in my stash for the stuff that they are asking for.

(I want to know why your eyes are brown)

Well, you see, my mother and my father fell in love and did what young people do when they are married and in love. <g> Being brown-eyed persons, their offspring all had various shades of brown, with the exception of one boy who was born blond haired, blue eyed, sharp as a tack and terribly obedient ...
In our family, my father's side being from Oklahoma, half the children are born blond, the other half dark, and out of five kids we have three blonds, but one blue eyes to go with that.
If I remember the biology correctly, it is called a recessive gene.
All very interesting, normal stuff <g> ... LOL

The way you said that your eyes are brown I thought it was maybe becasue you were full of something.

I am signing up for the thing, and I am printing out the first set of instructions, Anyone want to go with me in this and work on it together so I get what I am doing? Maybe post pictures so that I can follow along.

Has This place ever done something like this, that would be fun to do an informal one, I have no prizes to give away, well, maybe I can whip some embroidery stuff if people are interested

It sounds like great fun, but I shall be gone that day :( I will however watch for the next one :D 8) :D

I might be full of something <g> but, I never admit to a thing.
I figure people have to find these things out on their own.
I don't do pictures, so I don't know that I would be any visual help, but I have found the instructions on projects from this site to be very thorough. Have you browsed the site to see how they explain and illustrate other projects?

cutebuns 07-02-2009 09:21 AM

No i haven't yet, been kind of busy trying to figure out what you are full of, lol.

thought maybe if others were doing it that I could have company, though it would be easier of someone came to help me wade though my stash. I am bad at following what patterns are asking for most of the time,

omak 07-02-2009 09:28 AM

Well, we have a few days before it all starts ... I will chat with you about it.
I gather you are a bit more creative than I am, so this ought to be very interesting.
My first task will be: fold the laundry, go out and water the cattle, while I try to figure out ... how did a charm square suddenly become 9" square?
So ... since I do not own two yards of a single large-scale print, I guess I will go with one color family, and the power of suggestion runs strong in my brain, so I will be thinking: red ...
how about you?
AHA! I have the sashing and border ... nice, calm fabric ... mine is a wood print (light) ...
What have you seen that you are in control of so far? <g>

cutebuns 07-02-2009 09:35 AM

My first order is to go shower and go meet some quilting ladies, when I get back I am hoping that the fabric will have just jumped off of the shelf. I have never worked with a charm before so 9" doesn't sound strange, it sounds like a square. I am thinking blue maybe, or Purple, I have a friend that loves purple and wants a purple quilt, so maybe kill two birds (sorry ducky) with one stone. I mostly have bright colors so the calm fabric will be hard for me. HHmmmm, I am wondering if I have enough different shades of purple to do the whole thing that color, that would be cool.

It will be very tempting to see if I can figure out what they are doing with all of the pieces.

Always so fun to figure out what the pattern is going to be, that is for sure.
Have fun with your quilty ladies.
I agree ... accomplishing one practical application while taking care of a needed gift ... life doesn't get much better than that!
So, we have nine inch squares ...
actually ... charms are shapes all the same ... can be triangles, rectangles, anything ... just different fabrics.
We can buy charm packets, but those are five inch squares, so that is what I was ???? about ...
For the charm squares, I am thinking ... nine inches, variety of different fabrics in the same color family - - so, that suggests to me that the variety is important, but how important? Do I need to find 24 different reds? (I might not have a problem doing that <g> ,,, but will ponder it some more.)
12 DIFFERENT light fabric fat quarters ... so if I am using wood for the sashing and border, I am going to have to avoid tan, since the wood grain is light as in oak or pine ... wood is very calming to me (as in 2x4 between the eyes! LOL)
so, now ... on the additional dark scraps ... can I make those out of blue? I suspect this is going to set the mood for the quilt, so thinking ....
what am I trying to convey with the quilt? hmmmm .... have to go do some more laundry.
Are we having fun yet?
