Hi everyone,
I'll be in Plano Texas on Friday with a few hours of free time.
Any quilt shop recommendations?

kacy 49 11-30-2010 05:29 PM

What route are you taking from St. Louis to Plano? There are several quilt shops along hwy 69/75.

Cyn 11-30-2010 05:52 PM

Sorry never been but have fun! Can you google them?

trugger 12-01-2010 05:51 AM

I'll be flying into DFW and driving to Plano.

kacy 49 12-01-2010 05:57 AM

Gosh you probably need to google the quilt shops in Plano then as the ones I know are north of there. There is a directory for quilt shops in north Tx. It would probably be helpful. Good luck and have fun.

There is a quilt shop in Plano.. but I've not been there yet. There is a great shop on 75 in McKinney... the Virginia street exit? or Louisiana? oh dear... Just google quilt shops in McKinney Texas and two will pop up! They are both lovely... one is right on the east side of the highway next to a Big Lots... the other is east a few blocks in the old downtown. Enjoy!! There are several great quilt shops in the metro area!

goldsberry921 12-01-2010 06:03 AM

I don't know of any quilt shops (I'm from Plano) but I do know there is a Bernina on Ave K in Plano. I hope you have a good time. Chances are too, if you go to downtown Plano, there are some antique shops there, you might see some quilts there too.

mary quite contrary 12-01-2010 06:09 AM

Let me know when you are going to be there and I'll try and meet you there.

The Quilt Asylum right on Hwy 75.

There is also one in McKinney not too far away.

Good to know... my sister is in Garland and mentioned the shop in Plano... I suppose she thought it was a quilt shop... Sorry!! I still want to come to the Bernina shop in Plano sometime... AND downtown antiquing is always fun!!
There is also a shop in old downtown Garland, too.

Lots of nice batiks at Fabric Fanatics and they are very nice people. I have never been to their store but did meet them at the Festival in Houston.

There is also a very nice quilt store in Carrollton not too far away. It's in old downtown and it's also the post office.

There is also a large (and nice) quilt store at Fox and I-35 and I believe that it's in Lewisville.

There are many stores within a few minutes drive of that area. You can do your own "shop hop" without the crowds.

have a great time. Wish I could join you.

trugger 12-01-2010 06:37 AM

This is great info!
Thank you, everyone.
I have a meeting in Plano from 1-3 and fly out at 9:40.
Once I map them, I'll figure out which ones I think I can get to - and have dinner before my flight out!

Googlemaps says that it's about 45 min from the airport to Plano without traffic accounted for -

zipit 12-01-2010 06:38 AM

Love Field or DFW?

Joy

trugger 12-01-2010 06:43 AM

DFW

trugger 12-02-2010 05:49 PM

Mary QC,
I'm hoping to get to the quilt asylum around 330.
can you give me some advice on the afternoon commute?
I have to be at the airport by 830... should i wait until 7 or 730 to get back to Dallas?

There is a bunch of construction going on between McKinney and the airport. 7 would probably be safer.

I'll try to meet you at the quilt shop. I'm short. Gray hair. I'll wear jeans and a denim jacket.

trugger 12-03-2010 01:30 AM

great -
i'll be in black pants/jacket and blue flowery shirt!

it'll be great to met you!

Sharon321 12-03-2010 06:32 AM

There is a new quilt shop in downtown Plano on 15th street. the ones in McKinney are both wonderful. As far as commute, look up directions on mapquest and double the amount of time they say it takes.

redpurselady 12-03-2010 07:43 AM

Quilt Country in Lewisville - awesome shop.

Love love love this store and I am a regular there. Batiks are $8 a yard and great quality. Also enjoy the Blue Ribbon Quilt Shoppe in Wylie (10 mins from Plano) and the Quilt Asylum in McKinney (15-20 mins from Plano). These are the 3 main shopping areas that are worth the trip in the area.

Can I join you ladies? I was planning a trip over there today to get fabric for a mystery quilt.

Sharon, I would love to check out this new quilt shop in Plano. You are not talking about the Bernina quilt shop on K street or the one in downtown Wylie are you? Do you know how long its been open?

zipit 12-03-2010 09:28 AM

I wish I was coming down this week instead of next!

We can do this all again next week!!!

Just say when. As if we needed an excuse to go fabric shopping.

The more the merrier I say. Come on over.

I'm interested in the one in Plano on 15th. I haven't been there.

zipit 12-03-2010 11:13 AM

I am not sure what day I will be down. I have to deal with my "rent optional" tenant, pay taxes and then I can shop. I think I will stay two nights this time. That gives me two full days of shopping and one for driving.

Do you mean the batiks only store Fabric Fanatics?

mary quite contrary 12-03-2010 11:34 AM

Yes. Fabric Fanatics. I haven't been there. I googled it and it says it is on Haggard St. Is there another one?

crochetetc 12-03-2010 11:59 AM

Another store opened in downtown Plano but I was told it was not worth checking out. So wanted to clarify.

I shop at Fabric Fanatics all the time and after the 1st of the year the prices will increase!

trugger 12-03-2010 02:06 PM

Mary - I drove in circles (thanks gps) for almost an hour before I gave up.
I'm so disappointed! I had some money I wanted to give that quilt shop!

I hope you went and shopped like madness for me....
maybe another time?

mary quite contrary 12-03-2010 03:49 PM

I was there waiting for you. What a mess the construction out front was. No wonder you had trouble. Traffic was unusually heavy on 75 also. I'm sorry.

Maybe another time. I was pretty good to our pocketbook. I only bought what I need to work on Sanpat's IRR. BUT, I do need to make another trip for the next round.

GGinMcKinney 08-21-2011 08:26 PM

From the quilt shops in McKinney you can go South on 75 to HWY 121. Go west on 121 to DFW airport. HWY 121 is a toll road, but you can go 70 MPH and it is a nice new road.
Hmm, or are you flying out of Love Field?
