Thanks justwannaquilt I learned something new and useful already today. Your tip will go along way to helping alot of us with color selection for our quilts.

I copied your fabrics, cut them apart and played. If you don't mind, look at this combination-20 H 21 18 19 11 9 10 17 8 13 12 B F E A 6 5 2 1 . I love reds so I had to play a little. Forget that, I took so long playing that the problem is already fixed and I couldn't remove this post, sorry.

I would change places with 2 and 1. Then replace 21 with H.

Eileen Wright (author of the bargello book you are using) is a member of this board. Maybe if you PM'd her she would offer some advice. She is very nice. I think her user name is either eileenquilting or eileensquilting

I am very much a "red" person so I am looking forward to seeing the end results here.

Please don't delete this. I will try that order after I cut the first few strips! Thanks :)

While I have nothing to add, I wish to thank those who did and you have given me the opportunity to really like at color progression. This was like a mini learning session.

This is a great thread. Thanks for posting it. We are all getting clues on how to place fabrics for a bargello. Love it. And I'm no help with trying to select the fabric - except to me, #11 and 9 look close in shade and color.

You guys are so amazing. I'm afraid I lack the ability to evaluate colors well. I'm bookmarking this so when I try a bargello I'll know how to go about choosing. Wonderful information!

This is what my idea looks like. I'm sure the other ideas are much better.

1 and 2 need to be switched, duh.

I like what you have done. I layed yours out too. It seems like there are too many colors that are too similair in the middle - I know - you didn't do the shopping

I am starting to come to the realization that there are many ways too lay this out!!!!

decky 05-22-2011 03:46 PM

I don't think 15 or 2 go with the rest of your colors.

rahaube 05-22-2011 05:34 PM

The grayscale view of your fabrics shown by justwannaquilt shows the values of each fabric. I agree with the observations made by this board members. I do think 15 is not quite right in color but the value is fine. I also agree that 2, 3, 1 is a better value scale of light to dark that as presently shown. I am sure you will have a beautiful quilt that will be highly valued by the recipient.

LindaZ 05-22-2011 05:49 PM

I am amazed at all the wonderful input you have received. The suggestions were ones that I never would have thought of. When I do my first one I will have to post for such positive feed back.

nightquilter 05-22-2011 06:51 PM

These colors are beautiful. The only concern for me would be the #15 it shows up on my computer as more brown and I personally like H and B , 15 on left side. but this is your quilt so you must like your colors.Just lay them down and move back to see what jumps out and play with your fabric. But write your moves down most times we go back to our frist picks.Good luck!

I have to agree w/ bgullett, I don't think #2 blends in the rest. I hve only made one bagello quilt in blacks and whites, so mine was easy. May I ask where you got the pattern???

ButtermilkMama 05-23-2011 06:57 AM

sorry I spelled Bargello wrong!!!

I have to say that this layout looks really good. After starting on the quilt and having to adjust it after they were already cut, I wish I had had access to this post then. It was after ten on the Internet was off. Anyway, I just wantd to thank you. Your insights were very valuable.

It is a great book. There are lots of Bargellos and the instructions are easy to follow.

When I click on it and try to move it, it turns blue and you can see the color variations like a black and white photo.
It doesn't move it, just changes it.

At least with my puter it works.
