Please help? Little foot long arm leader DIY?

I have a Simply Sixteen and Little Foot frame. For my first quilt on the frame I had so much backing on my quilt that I was able to quilt end to end but on the wall hanging that I now have on the frame, I need additional inches maybe 12 inches or so. I saw where someone used Velcro on the take up roller on the frame but don't know what else or how she made the part to attach the Velcro or how she attached the leader ? To the quilt. Can someone instruct me on what I need and how to make what it is I need to e tend my quilt on the frame?
thank you so much

If I understand you correctly, you don't have enough backing fabric to quilt the whole quilt on the frame? Hopefully, someone will give you some info on leaders, but I would just baste a piece of muslin (or ugly fabric) onto the edge of your backing and remove it when you are done quilting.

I just sew some muslin on the backing and wallhanging and attach to the leader and just rip it off when I am finished.
just what PaperPrincess said.

Is sewing the extra fabric preferred over pinning or stapling? Is the use of Velcro on the rail recommended ?
thanks

The Velcro makes it easy to detach the leader so you can attach it to your backing using your sewing machine, or pinning while sitting at a table. My first frame had Velcro. I tried to use it a couple times, but didn't see the advantage. The other thing was the hook portion was applied to my rail, so it was always getting stray threads caught.
It's really a personal preference, as is your method of attaching extra fabric or a leader. As long as you use enough pins or staples (!!) to have the tension even along the entire length, it's as effective as basting. Whatever is quickest and easiest. Also consider the time to remove the leader with your chosen method.
