I want to make a fairly simple quilt top duvet cover for my DD's queen size bed. I haven't done a lot of quilting before, only two simple lap size quilts. I'm having trouble deciding on both fabrics and design. I'd like to use no more than 16 blocks total, probably with sashing in between, and I'd like each block to be the same. The quilt top will measure 87" square when finished. I'd like to use 4 or 5 different fabrics out of the ones here http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t=DSC03783.jpg I don't know if the picture shows it very well but the bottom left and top center fabrics are the same colorway, just one is dark purple with black accents and one is lavender with white accents. And the bottom center and right fabrics are the same colorway. I'm leaning against using the top right fabric since it doesn't go as well with the others.

I was thinking about either doing a nine patch pattern with three squares of one color each in opposite corners and three squares of a different color across the diagonal, with a fourth color for sashing. I suppose I could add little squares at the corners of the sashing if I wanted to use 5 colors. I can't decide on colors for that, though. Or I was thinking about doing something like this http://quilting.about.com/od/quiltpa...ound_twist.htm but modified a little. I think I'd made the center tilted blocks with a four patch pattern, probably using the two purples of the same colorway. Then I was thinking I'd use the other purple (bottom center) as the frame square for that, and then the dark blue for the sashing, with the light blue for the little squares. Does that make sense? I'm sure I'm not using the right terms for some of these things!

I'm open to suggestions on other simple quilt block patterns, or suggestions on fabric choices. I've already made several trips to different fabric stores and I think I've found about all the coordinating fabric I'm going to find & like for this, unless I use a solid color somewhere.

That's a really cute pattern. I'd use all the colors you've selected and vary the placement of colors. I'd keep the sashing all the same but you could really have fun with it.

Check out the second quilt on this site I think it might be right up your alley. It is done with a nine patch I believe and you might be able to use the colors in your photo Hope this helps. Tami

I like the dusty colors of your fabrics. It reminds me of the antique and heritage quilts done in dear Jane quilts.

Simplest block that I know to do is a Snowball block. You only need 2 different colors for that block.

Here's a site if you're interested:

BTW, welcome to the group
