Dear Passionate Quilters:

As part of my master’s thesis project for the Art Therapy Psychology Department at Notre Dame de Namur University, I am collecting information on the characteristics and therapeutic properties of quilting. The aim of this study is to identify the qualities of quilting that may be useful to the art therapy process, additionally, to recognize the implications for the art therapy field. For the purpose of this study, the term “quilting” includes patchwork, piecing, stitching, quilting and quilt-making. Quilting is defined as stitching or connecting together layers of a material.

I would be extremely appreciative if you could complete the 21-item anonymous questionnaire by clicking on the attached link. In order to participate, you must have some experience with quilting, whether it be relatively minor or significant. You will first be asked closed-ended and open-ended questions related to your experience with quilting. This will be followed by a few demographic questions that will not be used to identify you. Please be honest and answer to the best of your ability.

By completing this survey, you agree to participate in the research study. Your answers will remain anonymous and confidential and all your basic human rights will be protected at all times. The results of this study may be published.

Thank you so much for your participation in this research study!

Sincerely,

Autumn Powell

please note that this survey link is not endorsed by the board. since Admin has not said anything about it, i assume we were not asked before it was posted. we have no way to verify whether it's legitimate or a marketing ploy.

i could delete it, but i think it's a good example of something to think twice about before clicking.

a member has written me to report that the survey did not ask her for any personal information. Haleiwahulagirl has written as well. AND i took a chance and went through the survey myself.

if my mailbox fills with suspicious SPAM i'll let you know. however, i feel more comfortable about it now. i think this is probably legitimate and safe.

not and endorsement, but an update.

Just to let all know, I took the survey and absolutely no spam or anything else has come to my mailbox. Not an endorsement, just and FYI.

I didn't get asked for any email or personal info.

Thank you to all who have taken the survey so far! The information has been valuable! Just as I promised, you are anonymous... Keep it up!

the other instance of survey monkey that I was exposed to seemed to be a marketing tool. I notice that you just joined, but I don't see that you are a quilter. Isn't survey monkey able to get info without asking for it by virtue of you responding?

JANW,

Survey Monkey is a site that allows anyone to create their own surveys for polling purposes. Companies may use this tool as well as individuals, like me, who need it for thesis research. I have created a study and Survey Monkey creates a link for me, which I post for those who are interested, and then the data is collected nicely for me to read over and report in my thesis project.

It is true that I have recently joined this exciting message board, but as you can see on the introduction page, I presented myself as someone who has been teaching myself to hand-stitch Hawaiian quilts and pillows, hence my interest in writing a thesis regarding the therapeutic properties of quilting. However, my own opinion is not enough data to back an entire research project, so I am collecting valuable feedback from the lovely quilters on this forum, if they choose to participate. I hope this answers your concerns.

Just to reassure you, many of the hospitals I'm familiar with use Survey Monkey for evaluations, etc. It is legit.

I filled it out the first day and have gotten NO spam etc related to it. Good luck on your survey and thesis! I love helping out with these.. a member on my motorcycle forum did one for his masters and it was fun helping him out too.
