Hey guys, i'm just wondering if someone has dimensions for me, it would sure help. Otherwise i can make my triangles bigger than necessary, then trim then back. What i'm wondering is this. I'm trying to make a quilt, with 10" blocks, set on point. So the blocks are 10 1/2"s, unfinished. And so, for the outher edge, i want to set in triangles. So what i'm wondering is, i want to take a square block, and slice it corner to corner, to make my triangles. What size block should i use to slice my triangles? Any ideas? :)

cut your squares 10-7/8", then slice them on the diagonal as you planned.

This will work, but your bias will be on the edge of the quilt. If you want to put the bias on the inside, cut them 15 3/8 and slice on BOTH diagonals. This will make 4 setting triangles.

Don't forget that there is a difference between the CORNER setting triangles and the SIDE setting triangles.

Thanks Patrice and Dunster. hmmm, never thought about the bias, but now that i think about it, i think i'd rather deal with just one bias edge than two, so maybe i will machine baste my bias edge to stabilize it, maybe? lol :)

I'd just starch the fabric heavily before cutting. That will stabilize the bias edges.

I love the mary ellen best press. Many quilter's have fallen in love with it for this reason.

I think i like your idea Dunster, your way the bias wont be on the outside edge, but sewn into the seams. Maybe i will do it that way, thanks for doing the math for me :)
