Please!!! Does anyone have the conversion for the diamond pieces on the edges when turning a 10 block on-piont.

If I understand your question. I am just confused by calling them diamonds.
Setting triangles would be 15 3/8" squares cut twice on diagonal.
Corner triangles would be 8" squares cut on the diagonal.

Take a look at this:

http://quiltbug.com/Articles/on-point.htm

I found it very simple, informative, and it clearly explains the formula to use to figure out how much to add so the squares & triangle come out right. I bookmarked it & printed a copy out.

which means you need a square 15 3/8" that you cut diagonally (twice) to make 4 setting triangles to put your block on point....cut an x.

This might get you going. I saved it thinking I might set blocks on point, but I'm certain that's waaaay down the road for me.

Thanks. My quilting terminology needs to mature and it will now that I am retired and have time to do the thhings I love. I do appreciate your response.

Thank you so much. That's a great conversion chart. Just what I wanted now and for ALL the rest of the On-Point that I'll be doing in the future.

Great chart. Thanks for your time you put into this to research it. I'm finding the people on the Quilting board to be so nice and helpfull.

Thanks. I understand :-D Your explanations are appreciated. Sometimes it takes some thinking to understand but I got this one 8-)

I am so laughing in my mind right now.
I bet people who do not quilt just shake their head and walk away when one of these conversations get started. It is an area I am not familar with so I know what you are talking about but I do not have a clue what it all means. I feel very special having a front row seat to such a superior conversation. I wonder if I feel like those small children when they get to sit with the grownups and listen to the grownups talk.
This post is just so neat. Thank you for letting me listen in. It was great.

What's wrong with you people? Have you no pride? Where's the fun in using cheat sheets when you should ALL apply the Pythagorean TheoryFormulaThingy: A-squared + B-squared = C-squared. Now if I could only remember where the A,B,and C were.....

hahahahaha - sorry, I couldn't resist. Wish I had had the cheat sheet when I actually had to use the stupid formula to try to figure it out.

In a couple of the Replys to my request were the conversion sheets. Be sure to check them aout and get it for yourself. You are funny. HeHe

Mad, you know when you are on the board you are supposed to wear you quilting hat not your mathematician hat! :D

Happy Linda 01-07-2011 09:44 AM

Oh I know. My mind just feels like mush at times.

I appreciate the info, too, have printed them and have them in plastic protector sheets for handy reference. Both sites have important and pertinent info.

I know but sometimes my drafting background just jumps in and yells theories at me. lol

The generation gap thing: my gs was doing math homework with that formula, I was figuring squares and square roots in my head, he just sighed, and grabbed the caculator! Thanks for the link, just what i needed.
