The rules of the forum do not allow political discussions which I think is a good thing, however there is a political ad at the top of this page. I am curious about this because I have no idea how these things work.

Can you post a screenshot?
I don't have direct control over ads. They are supposed to be matched based on the content of the posts. But I can sometimes filter specific domains and prevent them from showing. |
Sorry, i don't know how to do that. I was able to cut and paste. It's an ad by Google. Hope this helps.
Gutting the Public Option The insurance companies are gutting the public option. Stop them! HealthCareforAmericaNow.org |
On which page of the board did it appear? Can you post a link to the topic?
|
I just saw one to at the top of the recent topics list, but can't seem to copy it for you. It read, "Stop Joe Lieberman."
It's an ad by Google for healthcareforamericanow.org |
Let's see if this brings one up...
Who are you voting for during the next guild election? |
Well, that brought up a Toyota ad LOL
Am I missing something??? All of the ads I see are at the bottom of the page.... |
There is so much personalization in the online ad industry now that it's impossible to replicate what you are seeing.
Aside from the content of the page, they factor in the pages you've seen before, your location, other sites you visited, demographic information and so on. So two people could be looking at the same page and see different ads. In any case, I blocked that particular domain so we shouldn't have any ads from them any more. |

I keep getting the "find romace" type of ads with mine, and I have been happily married for almost 26 years now.
I wonder if they are telling me something..........  Billy |
That's odd. I don't get any ads at all on the forum page. I use Google Chrome for my browser so you'd think Google ads would show up.
|
I have Ad Block Plus on my Firefox. No ads for me! I heart ABP
|
I just installed it and the accessory program with it and it is so nice now!!
I have the fastest internet available on the market today and it just made it faster!!!! Billy |
Uh-oh!! The ad I get all the time is the fat lady in a bikini advertising "Lose Belly-Fat". She actuallly looks a lot like me. HOW DO THEY KNOW????????
P.S. Is there a charge for the ABP program?? |

Firefox is way safer than IE anyday! My daughter used to chew viruses constantly until I loaded FF on her laptop and it stopped a lot of the issues she was having.

I get lots of quilting ads and the fat lady laying down, who must have the strongest implants ever!! I can't imagine how her body does that!!
|
Even if you don't use Firefox for anything except this quilting forum, I recommend installing and using it. It is free, fast, and clean. I never see ads here.
I use Firefox almost all the time (can't really explain why Internet Explorer is still installed). I have really noticed the difference on Facebook. I play Lexulous and had logged in with IE one day and wondered why there were suddenly all these ads around my game. Firefox blocks them all. |
I use Firefox and I just started getting the ads, that's why I asked about them, I hadn't been getting anything like that until the day I posted the question. They seem to be gone now.

Is Firefox compatible with Macs? We have Safari, but some sites don't work well with it. And I definitely wouldn't mind getting rid of the ads.
I agree it is extremely scary and creepy how much info they gather.http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-scared003.gif |
