Polka dot ideas

I’ve been given polka dot fabric and would like to make quilt blocks but can’t come up with a plan. I have big dots, small dots and many colors. If you have a pattern that would fit the bill, please share the name. Thank you !

I made a baby quilt using pin wheels with polka dot material. It was for a little one named Dottie.

I also vote for pinwheels! Even though this is a card, I totally want to make this into a quilt!

Polka dots are nice to add to so many quilts, whimsical

We recently had a prayer quilt donated that had polka dot pinwheels mixed with white. It was very nice. You could do a disappearing nine patch if you added a solid. MSQC Falling Charms with a solid. Lots of possibilities.

I have lots of polka dotted fabrics in my stash. They're great for kids' quilts. With the pastels I've made bunnies and with the stronger colors I've made pinwheels. If you have a lot of solids in a quilt, polka dots are great for sashings. I've also made several aprons as gifts using vintage fabric that has toasters all over it where I added a red and white polka dot ruffle.

I made an 'illusion' quilt with rectangles of polka dot fabric.

We must be on the same wavelength. I just got some polka dot fabric. Not sure what I'll use it for yet but I wanted some! Pinwheels are a great choice.

I have several polka dot fabrics in my fabric collection and I love using them-any size or any color. I like them in sashing and borders or a part of the block.

Sew easy on YouTube has a cute rail fence done with various colors of polka dots along with white....easy, quick, but cute......

Thanks for starting this thread as I was wondering why I bought several polka dot bolts when Hancock Fabric was going out of business. :). Now I have ideas.

I've been collecting polka dots for while now, too. I want to make a quilt that is circles of polka dot fabric. Google images of quilts featuring circles.

Here's a top that I made a few years ago - all out of polka dotted fabric. The center is a Pat Sloan pattern.

I always love a polka dot binding.

My go-to pattern for a variety of similar fabrics is "Take Five." Use the original pattern, or find one of the updated ones that gives several sizes. It's easy to do, and the results are very pleasing, whatever size you decide to make.

Love the ideas. I also have several polka dots in my stash. I pulled them out recently and sit looking at them and wondering how to use them in my little charity baby quilts. Now I have some ideas. The pin wheels look perfect! Thanks!!

I am currently in the hand quilting process of a baby quilt done with polka dots and either stripes or checks of some sort in each square. It is a pinwheel square in the center done in two shades of white tonal and half square triangles done in the dots with stripes or checks surrounding the center square. It was a fun quilt to do .

There is currently a 5" Polka Dot Charm swap going on in the Swap area of the forum, if anyone is so inclined :)

I love polka dots and have been collecting them for years. I think they look great for pinwheels and rail fences. I also saw a log cabin done with them that was really fun.

Nine-patches and four-patches in assorted sizes that fit together. (Mine is still at the blocks stage, so no photo.)
12", 6",4",3" blocks all work well together. You could even have an 18" or 24" if you have jumbo dots. (I made an effort to mix up the color combinations, avoiding any two blocks being the same pair of fabrics in the same positions.)

Crispy_Frog 04-05-2018 07:27 PM

I guess polka dots are all the rage now! As was already mentioned...there is a polka dot swap that was just announced!
