I really love the feel and shimmer of poly cotton but is it my imigination - does it get really stringy and fray more than 100% cotton. :?: Maybe just me but does appear super "stringy". What do you guys think?

I've never really notied poly/cotton to be stringier...

I think it depends , I have some very tightly woven , and some the fibers were "stringy". I look closely at the cut end of the bolt to really get a good look at the fibers.

yes, it does fray, have more strings- maybe they are more noticable because they are so strong- cotton strings break away- poly strings hold on....

When I started quilting 100% cotton was too expensive for me and not readily available except in the high end quilt shops. I used a lot of poly blends. They do fray more and don't have the soft feel of cotton. Now I will only use cotton. It is just so much easier to work with and the finished quilt just 'feels' nicer, softer.

Thanks everyone. I am using a rich black for the backround and the slight sheen looks great but the strings are killing me. I have got to get some of the 'lint rollers' tomorrow or my 'quilting' lady will kill me. It is a forgiving fabric and I like it but I just don't like those strings. Thanks again everyone.

Maybe use pinking shears. Could help with the mega-strings. I know many people don't like the pinked edges, but in this case it may save your sanity.
