Poly-Fil Batting
 

Hello everyone!! I am cleaning my shelf that's above the clothes rod (I'm short-it's not in my reach) in my bedroom closet that holds a variety of things..quilting items, old board games, totes, etc...you get the picture I am sure.
Anyway...I found 2 packages of crib size Poly-fil batting (one has a H.L. tag) that I must have bought probably 8 years ago. I use cotton batting when I make a quilt now.
Question: does anyone still use poly-fill batting???

I have some I am going to try on a wall hanging and will more definition. I have a turkey one I am going to work on next.

I use Hobbs Polydown batting a lot. Both by itself and doubled up with 80/20.

sewingsuz..never thought about using it for wall hanging pattern.

Although I much prefer cotton batting, I buy low loft poly batting, since 99% of my quilts are donated and I simply can't afford to use the cotton.

I mainly use Hi-loft Polyester batting. Warmth without the weight.

That is all I use in donation quilts and it works out well for me.

Sure! Almost all my quilts now-a-days are baby and children's quilts for donations. I use poly batting, usually low loft, but I settle for whatever batting is on sale...

I have just recently used up the only bag of poly fil batting that I had it worked fine but for the most part I only use polyester batting for wall hangings.

No poly here. I prefer cotton.

I like the puff of poly and use cotton only if it's something that I want to be flat. Too, poly washes and dries easily for quilts that are laundered more often.--my opinion anyhow.

yes. i have some too. will make poly stuffed Owls soon for my great grandsons.
OH it's batting. No not me. I do not like puffy quilts at all. just a preference.

another vote for poly batting, low loft poly has been my go-to for years, no issues with it.

I love the look of quilts with polyester batting. When I wash them they get nice and crinkly. I just wish I could find the thicker stuff I used to get when I made homemade comforters before I started making quilts.

Our quilt guild uses polyester batting for baby and children's quilts to be given through various organizations. They do look so pretty with the puffiness. For my personal quilting I prefer cotton or 80/20.

I should say i like thin poly batting. i sometimes use Hobbs Thermore. comes in a gray bag.

I do for wall hangings or small quilts that will be hung--poly doesn't show creases as much as cotton.

I have never purchased poly batting.

I read somewhere that using the poly batting is like using steel wool ...the fibres are abrasive and the quilts wear out quicker. I haven’t felt good about using it since reading this. Cost wise it sure is cheaper and I do like the look, fluffier, . Anyone else hear this ?

Thanks Tartan. I have only tied one quilt, crib size. Maybe time to do another tie quilt.

Shadoh, I've never hear this about poly batting.

I use poly because I like the warmth without the weight. I'm thinking of trying some wool--if I ever get a project for which I have a say. Just saying--I mostly quilt for others and/or charity.

Thanks for the thread.. I use poly because it washes up nice and I like the puffiness.. and it cost a lot less then the cotton batting..So for me i use it unless someone asks for cotton..Most of my quilts are give aways so this is what I can afford..
