Polyester quilting

I need info for quilting a polyester whole cloth quilt. I am trying to free motion on my sewing machine. Am using polyester 40 wt. longarm quilting thread. I have tried several needle sizes and types but the thread keeps shredding. Am using cotton batting.

Have you loosened the tension? And tried a topstitch needle size 14 or 16?

Yes to the larger eye needle plus you might want to slow your speed down.....use gentle curves, triple check your threading. Good luck.

Should the needle be a sharp or ball point, etc

I am thinking there is something in the polyester fabric that is sticking to the needle. Maybe, I don't know.

I am thinking that the ball point needles are for the knit fabrics. I would stick with the sharps

I put on a size 90 universal needle and 40 wt cotton thread and it worked. Thank you all.
