I have always used cotton thread to both piece and machine quilt, however, my stash is slowly dieing and I'm in need to quilt a baby quilt I'm just about finished. My question is: can you use polyester thread (embroidery) to machine quilt? I have only used either Aurafil or Mettler thread, and do not have access to any at this time, so, that is why I'm questioning using the Mettler Polyester!

yes. polyester embroidery thread does very well for machine quilting, too. :-)
hint: use the same type and weight of thread in the bobbin, too, for more even tension. |
I love the sheen of polyester embroidery thread for quilting :D:D:D

you can use any thread you want. it's your project. i have quilted with cotton, silk, wool, poly and rayon threads; they all work. it just depends on what you are working on and what you like to work with (and of course what you have available at the time)

Thankyou ladies. I knew I could count on this board for the answer. I have oodles of embroidery thread/polyester thread, but, not much cotton thread, or atleast not in colours that would be suitable for machine quilting. Once again, thankyou!
