I remember when I was a little girl, I had a yarn poncho that was my most favorite clothing item. I wore it everywhere!
I would really like to make my two year old a poncho, but I don't knit, or crochet. I thought about making it from fleece, but thought that might be too hot this time of year. Would some of you fantastically talented ladies have some suggestions on how to make a lighter weight poncho that she can wear this season?
Thanks for your help.

Can you make one out of lace?

I used to have lined cotton ponchoes that matched my outfits. Mom made me dresses and made ponchoes to match.

Also, don't count out crocheting or knitting. I taught myself to crochet last year from YouTube videos. It's pretty easy. I got good enough to make a few afghans.

While now is a nicer time of the year, there's still cooler evenings that she'd be able to wear the fleece. Cut a large circle, and then a hole big enough for her head. You may find you'll need to make it bigger, and have a fastener to hold it in place.

Or crochet or knit one.

And of course ... how about a quilted poncho?

Quilted, of course. There was a thread a week or two ago about ponchos. I forget who started the thread but she was debating on using a Christmas skirt pattern to make a poncho. We all thought that was a great idea!

There are many open weave fabrics that would make cute ponchos. I was looking at some last summer :D:D:D

Back in the early 1970s my mother-in-law crocheted ponchos for my young daughter and myself. I wore mine for a long time. My daughter wore hers until she grew out of it. We loved them.

I made a poncho in high school that I wore completely out! It was made of a light weight woven home dec/upholstery type fabric with a southwestern striped design. It reminded me of an indian blanket (and I wore it with indian mocassins). It wasn't lined, so was lightweight and flexible. I also added fringe all around the edge with three matching yarns. Boy, I sure wish I had that old poncho still!
