I just got a quilt back from the quilters and in putting my binding on have found some problems. The pattern was Tile Tango and she quilted butterflies in the open blocks in pink then did a wavy line around my squares and roses on the border. The butterflies were done in pink with white bobbin thread and her tension was off and you can see the pink thread on the back of the quilt. Also, there is another place that the quilting has come out. What do I do?

I'd take it back to her and ask her to fix it. She is the one who bears the responsibility of a good finished job!

patricej 03-26-2008 01:40 PM

i agree with bj.

tlrnhi 03-26-2008 01:45 PM

Yep, I agree with them!

Think I can leave the binding on? please tell me yes - I don't want to take it off :-)

ccbear66 03-26-2008 02:00 PM

I agree take it back. You paid good money to have this done and she needs to fix it.

I think you would have to take that off.

ceannastahr 03-26-2008 02:53 PM

You should have her make the repair. If the problem isn't close to the binding I think you could leave it on

I agree too.. take it back.. if you are not happy with the service, then the quilter should either fix the problem or return your payment.

quilterpat 04-01-2008 11:44 AM

definetly take it back so she can adjust her machine, for others and she needs to repair this for you. The price of quilting is too expensive to let this slide.

Take it back - and don't forget to keep us updated.

I'd like to see a photo of what she did, front and back. Did the two of you discuss the quilting you wanted done? If the backing is a very different color than the front, you should have discussed what color bobbin thread you wanted. If the bobbin thread and the top thread are very different colors, there will always be a slight dot affect on both sides of the fabric where they are pulled through that can't be avoided but not larger than the size of the needle, usually. Gosh, I hope the two of you can work out the problem. Unless you know your quilter's work VERY well, I suggest you don't say, "Oh, do whatever you want." The two of you may have very different ideas and not be aware of that.

I will try and take some pics tonight. I just have to find the cord so I can upload the photos to my computer after I take them :)
We agreed on the quilting but she altered the plan and did the butterflies in the pink thread. In the white you just didn't see them and they look great in pink. The backing is green by the way.

She did another quilt at the same time with just a basic stipple. I will double check it this evening and see if there were tension problems and skipped stitches there too. I hope not!

You need to let her know of the problems immediately. She needs to fix it. If she tells you there is nothing she can do....demand a full refund. I hope this is a small quilt because the solution may be to un-sew all the quilting and get it done again elsewhere.
Good Luck.

Here are the pics -
The first one the butterfly on the front this is w/out the flash cause with it you couldn't even see the quilting. The other two are of the back of the quilt and you can see the pink. Not all of them are like these two, I would say these are the worst. A friend said oh its the back don't worry but after listening to all of you I agree she needs to fix it.

Here is what the whole thing looks like

jacquemoe 04-03-2008 05:50 PM

I'm wondering about all that puckerig. Did she do that too? And from what I can see, her stitch in the ditch isn't all that great either. That's why I won't do custom quilts yet. :D

tlrnhi 04-03-2008 06:03 PM

The quilt is really pretty, but with that quilting that was done on it, it takes away from the prettyness.
I, like the others said, would take it back.
You paid good money to have it done and it should have been done correctly. I'm wondering how many other quilts she has done that came out the same way? Did people complain, not complain?

live2teach 04-03-2008 06:39 PM

I agree with everyone. I'd take it back. You paid her for top quality quilting and discussed it and she altered it. The quilt is beautiful by the way.

Missi 04-04-2008 06:46 AM

she didn't stitch in the ditch - it is a wavy line along all of the squares. It looks ok, I know I won't use her again. Why is it so hard to find someone good to do your machine quilting. Especially if I want something done besides an all over stipple. I am so frustrated I could scream!

jacquemoe 04-04-2008 09:08 AM

I don't blame you for one minute for being so frustrated. I know you put a lot of work into that quilt and merely wanted it to look nice. Do you know how long she's been in business? Her job is to make the customer happy so you should talk to her about your issues with the quilt and she should OFFER to correct it or find some way to make some kind of compensation. Don't be afraid of hurting her feelings by being honest with her. She won't know you're not happy if you don't tell her. You may be doing her a favor so she doesn't do that to someone else. However, if she just makes excuses then you will know for sure that you don't ever want to use her again.
