I have seen the quilt pictures in magazines and am gathering material for a quilt-picture I want to do of a favorite granduncle who has passed on. He was such a character and fun guy to be around when I and my siblings were kids. He loved playing cards with us and tell the best ghost stories.

In the class you took, did you match the top threads to the material?

I usually lurk and haven't really introduced myself to you all yet.
I took that Quilt University class too and actually finished the entire quilt, not too common for me. LOL

I took a pic of my nephew all dressed up in cowboy garb and used it as my portrait block and then came up with all kinds of other cowboy stuff to put in the other blocks. He absolutely loves it!

I've been thinking about taking one of those on-lie classes at Quilt University. Did you like the classes? I think you are the first I've heard that took a class there.

I've taken a few classes with them. I'm really impressed with the number of classes they have and how easy it is to learn through them. My classes have usually been on Saturdays; I copy the lessons and print them out so I can read through them without having to be on the computer ALL the time. They usually have a supply list that you get ahead of time and sometimes there are cutting instructions for homework before the class actually starts.

They have a 'classroom' situation; I think they just call it a forum and you have to have your password for the class you've paid for to see the postings. You keep in touch with the teacher that way; also everyone in the class introduces themselves, often catching up with people they've been in other classes with. The more you participate in this forum-style classroom, the more you learn; by others asking questions or asking yourself.

Thanks for the info. Guess we are both from Colorado. I live out in Bennett. I've checked out that University site and they sent me mail to take a free class. I still get their news letters. I have too much in the works now to join but someday I imagine I will. I have to finish 2 wedding ring quilts hopefully by Christmas for my great Niece and Nephew. Both got married last summer. I just decided since my sister, their grandmother passed away I'd try to take over for them. I'm working on a quilt from a class at Great American Quilt Factory, the Fan Dance. The day of the class the weather was so bad my friend and I stayed home so we already have the pattern and material all cut we are just trying to put it together. I've been sewing pajama bottoms for the family for the past two weeks. Mine are almost finished. My DH are done and so are my daughter's, her boyfriend and her dog. :-)

conblond2005-I have taken many classes from them. I really like it because you can work at your own pace, and if you don't get it done when the class ends then you can finish when you have time. I have taken from machine quilting to EQ5 classes, to a beading class, machine applique. Oh that is just to name a few. It is exactly the way that Dusty described. Sounds like you are busy Connie. Good luck getting all those quilts done.

Sandi, thank-you for the info on thread, I was wondering about matching. Now I'll be on the hunt to match the fabrics I have for Uncle Pete's portrait.
