Would you like to post your fabric for a discussion as to how it might work for One Block Wonder quilts?
I will start off with a few I have in my stash. Purple Roses Birds Pink Posies Bird 2 Sparklers |
love the sparkler fabric for anything. looks like colored fuzzy dandelions
|
They would all make gorgeous OBW quilts! There is so much variety in all the patterns!
|
All would be good but I like the second one the best. the colors are great and there would be so many different blocks.
|
I think 'Birds' or 'Birds 2' - either or would give you more color variations to different blocks.
|
I like #2 the best
|
I see potential in all of them. it totally depends on what look you are going for to which one I would start with,
|
You have some cool fabric :!:
|
They are all so pretty, but I'm personally partial to roses. Can't wait to see how they look after they are put together.
|
They are all very suitable for OBWs.
And each will lend itself to different design elements. I've just received my copy of the new "One Block Wonders Cubed" book a few days ago, and in there are many more design dimensions for these quilts, not only cubes! It is going to expand the designing/layout of OBWs immensely. |
oh myy You have some beautiful fabrics!
|
I like them all but specially the second 1.
|
Have you tried using the a hinged mirror to view possible designs? They seem to give a kaleidoscopic view. Great fun to have.
A couple of things that you could look up: Mirror Imaging, or Quilter's Design Mirrors. I think the second fabric would give you the most variety in your blocks |
Oh wow, I need to try the hinged mirror.
|
I have ordered all three of her books. As you can tell I do nothing in moderation. I am already planning ahead. My BFF had me "stop" to look at fabric today. She is in the thick of things and is an accomplished quilter. It is so much fun to have someone to plot with. LOL

I saw this in blue and black today but I like the colors the way they are. Thanks for the comment.

Thank you all for your comments. You are providing me with so much bravado that I am having to hold myself back and not go buy more. I have tubs and tubs and tubs of fabrics. I dare say a lot of the fabric will lend it's self to OBW. Wow imagine that! Use what I already have and save money. What a novel idea. LOL

Some of them are too pretty to cut  So you might have to get something else :D

Love them all but fell in love with the purple roses. Can't wait to see your choice :-D
|
I like them all and agree that they would all work for OBWs. My personal faves are the purple roses - I think you'd get a really beautiful quilt out of that with the light and dark purples and the green for extra interest. Also the parrot one, I think would be really striking and I love the way that with fabrics featuring animals or birds, you get little glimpses of beaks, eyes etc here and there. So, how many have you made already? LOL

I can't stop looking at the purple roses and picturing like a water color quilt with the lightest shade radiating from the center out! Please, please tell me the name of that fabric! I am in total fabric envy here!

I personally would choose one of the bird fabrics. They are big prints with lots of color variation and no hard lines.
The reason that I wouldn't choose fabric 1 - is that there isn't enough color variation. Love the fabric, but not sure you'll get the traditional OBW effect. Again with the pink - I don't think there is enough color variation. The sparklers don't feel right - can't explain that one. But you never know - that could be a good contender. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth. Love to see what you do regardless :) |
All of your fabrics are very suitable for a OBW. Personally, I'd choose ones that have more colors in them than fewer. Your resulting hex's will be more varied then. Check out my avatar - that's a tropical bird fabric. The Sparklers fabric might turn out to be quite a lot like it originally is, with a quick look, since the print is already an exploding firework. I'd also suggest to use the hinged mirrors to see the possible hexs you might get. Hold it open so you see 6 images in it and slide it slowly along the width of the fabric. You'll be amazed and get so excited of what's to come! Enjoy!
|
I never have enough fabric on hand for a OBW, so I had to go out and buy 6 yards not really knowing what was going to look the way I wanted it to look. I would love to see some of your OBWs and a sample of the fabric before it was cut. I can't seem to get a handle on "seeing" the designs before cutting and setting together.
Love your rose fabrics by the way. |
I have a Hinged mirror and I play with it when I find possible OBW fabrics. I love all of your fabrics. I carry it in my tote and whenever my sew friends and I find possible OBW's we pull it out and ooh and awwwwww.
Have fun with whichever one you chose. |
I love the purple roses, don't know if I could cut it up. I think I used fabric like that to make oldest Granddaughter a tied comforter with it, I have some remants like it, so I won't have to fight with myself to cut those up as they are short pieces. I will have to see what I can do with them.
No ideas for which one to use. |
