hahahahahahaha

I went through all my fabric and discovered I love flowers, stars, bright and bold prints. Nothing neutral, so last weekend I went out and bought about 10 plain colors - yellows, blues, greens, purples, and one black.
Looking through my magazines I find quilts made from fabrics I wouldn't pick out, but look great in quilts, so I wondered...is it possible to only buy fabric as you need it? I'm not saying I could, but I wonder if anyone does?

I think that would be considered abnormal, possibly bordering on needing intervention...

When I first decided to start quilting I was given bags and bags of fabric they had tucked away at the church thrift shop just waiting for someone to ask for quilting fabric. It's OK but nothing I would really pick out myself unless it's for a scrappy quilt and it's not enough of each piece to make a big quilt.

When I find a pattern I want to make I usually go buy the fabric to make it, plus a little bit to be safe.
I really avoid building a stash other than what I was given. Now I have about 4 quilts in my head that I want to make so if I see something on sale that would be good for one of them I will get that but nothing else!

I really have to start on some scrappy quilts and use those smaller pieces!

I'm a beginner. So, for now I will buy fabric that I want for the quilt I am making at the moment. I do have a tini tiny itty bitty stash, but I have no space for a large stash. So for now, one project at a time!! We'll see how long that lasts!!!!

Sad, Sad, Sad ladies. How can you only buy what you need? If DH found out about this, it could ruin a good thing here.LOL He thinks it is an addiction that can't be helped, having so much fabric! It's like I have to have my fix every week or so.

I suppose it is POSSIBLE, but then who would stimulate the economy? :D

My stash is definitely in the overwhelming category at this point and I made a pact with myself that I MUST use from the stash for the next project before new can come in.

We'll see how I'll do at the Grass Velley Quilt show this weekend. It is tough to go and not buy anything. Gotta support the vendors; they come from so far away. (ggggg)

I know people who only buy when they are making something. I, myself, buy when the urge hits me which is all the time. lol
We buy what we can afford to buy. It's up to you to decide.

I only bought what I needed for my first quilt. After that I was obsessed with fabric. I spend hours in the fabric store. My kids give me a gift card to the fabric store for presents. I love it. I spend hours with my fabric. There is nothing wrong with me!!!!!!!! I'm as normal as the next person ( and the ladies at the fabric store love me ) Tee Hee :D :D :D :D :D :D

i keep the basics in house (blenders, batiks, ombre, tone on tone) and i'm always on the hunt for new fabrics for this collection.

then i purchase any other prints that strike me for a project but that fabric is mostly used in handbags and not quilts.

i do have all the fabric in the house organized by projects based on style. once i have the orders for the quarter i set those fabrics aside for each persons project.
