post on Vintage linens used in quilts
 

I could swear I saw a post that somebody made a quilt using vintage table runners, pillowcases, etc that had the pretty embroidered pictures on them. I have BOXES of these linens and would like to know more about how to use them in quilting!
Does anyone else remember this post?
Have any info on how to do it?

I'll be watching this post because I also have bunches of old embroidered napkins and tablecloths. Thanks for posting! I have no ideas of what to do with them.

I have some that are beautiful Art Nouveau style ladies that are screaming to made into something! They are table runners or dresser scarves and in the middles they have holes, stains, etc, but the embroidery part is fabulous! BUT I also have the cutest "luncheon" clothes with like dancing chickens, and tea party stuff...I would really like to USE this stuff in a quilt!

I recently saw a quilt top a lady had made from what appeared to be embroidery from all sorts of things...dishtowels, napkins, pillows, etc. She used a basic block size cut from the original items and used strips to join them. She used a bright red but I would have chosen something a little less bright as it seemed to distract from the nice, soft colors of the embroidered work. I recently made a baby pillow out of a damaged table runner by cutting off the damage, folded it in half and kept the blue birds for the front. It's a good thing to recycle all the work someone did.

I have 4 napkins embroidered by my Mom many years ago. At one time I framed them and hung them on the wall. Now I decided I would like to make a wall hanging out of them. They have embroidered flowers and crocheted along the sides. I have googled instructions as to how to do them. But no luck. I am going to the Lancaster Quilt Show and am taking them, maybe I can get some information.

Jacquie, about a month ago I started a post showing my plan to use vintage embroidered pieces in a quilt. I am doing the sew and flip method, and the quilt will have a crazy quilt look, although at this time I don't plan to do crazy quilt type embellishments. The advantage as I see it in this style is that I can cut the embroidery focus pieces in irregular shapes. This project may take awhile, because I am making blocks as I find the embroidered items and I am trying to use vintage fabrics for the rest of the block.

Recently there was a discussion about hankies in quilts, and I imagine you could get some ideas from that.

I have some embroidered items that have holes in them and have been keeping them to do something "quilty" with. I like the crazy blocks, but most of my items have long lines of embroidery, like along the end of a dresser scarf or pillow case. I'll be watching this thread to see what ideas people come up with and if I come up with anything, I'll be sure to post it, too! :)
