Postage Stamp Quilt top
 

Hello Everyone. I am working on a postage stamp quilt. I saw one in the latest LL Bean catalog and it inspired me. I'm making it in bright white-on-white, with shades of blue, aqua, green, lavender and peach/coral. I really like the way it's coming together but it's going to be a long term project as it gets kind of boring and tedious if I spent too much time on it.

My question is, for anyone that may have made a postage stamp quilt, did you sew any kind of boarder onto it or did you just bind it when you were finished piecing? I'm thinking just an extremely narrow boarder, picking up one of the fabrics used in the top or eventually matching the back, might add to the durability of the quilt? I'd sure appreciate your suggestions and input. Thanks.

I like borders on quilts -- yes I think that a solid color border or two would add interest to your quilt!!-- go for it and enjoy making it !!:thumbup:

I have seen a border on a postage stamp quilt that is about 10" from the edge then more postage stamps and another border. Looked really sharp!

Susie: If you are able to remember, was this inserted boarder narrow like the postage stamp rows or was there quite a bit of contrast width from the rest of the quilt? This sounds very interesting and I appreciate your input.

I am handstitching a postage stamp quilt ... it's going to take years because I've cut the scrap fabric (all from old clothing) with scissors, sewing by hand and plan to hand quilt. I don't plan on putting a border on it, but I still have plenty of time to change my mind. I wanted to make a quilt in the way my great grandmother would have made her early quilts - she was a fantastic quilter.
