I've just come across this post, some 5 and 1/5 years later. You and your dad sound fun!! Love it!

I made a whole bunch for Christmas gifts several years ago. I was Very careful to use the specific batting, thread and all cotton fabric. I printed out specific instructions for the use, too. Several months later my niece's caught fire in her microwave, as well as a another friend's. I felt SoooooBad! Especially for my friend because her microwave was ruined. So now I warn folks about these things.

Several people have asked me about making the bowl cozies - I won't touch them because of the above incidents. I also warned DMIL about using her's...she blew me off - saying 'oh it will be fine'. Hopefully, nothing bad will happen to her's.

Happy Quilting!

To this day, I don't understand why people think those bags are a good idea.

I don't get them either. As I was reading this thread, I was thinking "cotton burns".
